overheating 3VZE engine

I own 95 4Runner (3vze), and recently it recently overheated. I checked most immediate solutions like belt, coolant. The engine was starting ok but it had a low idle. I was pulling out all plugs to do a comprssion test, and had to unplug vacuum lines to get at them. I noticed gas coming out of one of the vacuum lines. Is this an indication of a bad head gasket or something else. Thanks

That Vacuum line that you pulled out probably wasn't a vacuum line. It was probably the fuel return line.

How did it over heat? Where you driving it when it overheated or stuck in traffic? How fast were you going if you were driving?

This could possibly be your fan malfunctioning, the fan infront of your a/c condensor. When they stop working, the engine doesnt run as cool as it should. Does your a/c work fine also?

That little fan in front of the condensor is only for the A/C. It has nothing to do with your overheating. Check your fan clutch, it should make a roaring noise when you first start it. If it does not then the clutch might be bad.

Over heating.

The 3.0V6`s are known for head gasket failure. Toyota sent me a letter a long time ago about this. They would cover most of the cost for 8years or 160,000km (100,000mi). They replace the head gasket with an updated one before I bought the truck. Mine was done at 100,000km (60,000mi) and now has 400,000km (248,000mi) So it is about due again. Before you condemn the head gasket make sure everything else is okay, coolant, thermostat etc.
