Overland Trip down to Crater Lake, OR

We are planning a 3 day/2 night rain or shine trip for next weekend and I'm here to collect insight on good places to add to our list.

We will be leaving from Vancouver, WA and heading down east I-84 and down 206 towards the painted hills. From there we are going to travel to I-97 to get to Crater Lake which will be our main destination and our first camp site.

That's pretty much all we have mapped out... So if anyone has had experience with traveling in the areas close by and has suggestions of places to go see or another camping destination to add then that would be great! We plan to camp two nights in our RTT so a "drive n' camp" is ideal.

Nice to see someone else from the Vancouver area - I've got an RTT too :rockon:

I scoped out the Crater Lake area last fall and found a good number of campgrounds along highway 138 between Crater Lake and I5. Not sure how conditions are (if there's any snow or if it's all melted).

You'll see signs for them as you drive along - feel free to pull into one and see if you like it or not.

I also took some forest roads off of 138 and found some remote/primitive camping spots if that's more your flavor.

Diamond Lake has a large campground that's more established and family oriented

For sightseeing, might wanna check out Toketee Falls and Smith Rock. Tamolitch Blue Pool is also a great spot, but might be out of your way. Again, I don't know how conditions are after this crazy winter...

Sorry to be a troll on this thread and not be a participant in your trip, but I was wondering from the Bend, OR ppl where abouts I can do some light off-roading. I'd like to see more scenery that OR has to offer. My husband and I will be in Redmond/Bend/Sisters area right after July 4th. What are the best places to visit in those areas? Thank you :yo:
