I very much like these and similar videos.
But a serious question: what is it with the fascination of always filming yourself when talking, driving, etc. instead of turning the camera around to see what you are talking about? Or at least filming scenery or the road or something else when talking? It’s not just you as I see it more and more these days. And it’s honestly not a criticism – just a strange trend I’ve wondered about.
Ok so... This is a good question.
I am NOT a student of film, an experienced movie maker, nor do I have a lot of experience editing or storytelling. Additionally, I'm not actually very creative, I struggle big-time with the creative process, and I don't have near the creative talent of those that I draw inspiration from.
But what I'm trying to do is tell the story of our adventures, our progression, our experiences - and telling you that story requires more than just showing you. It requires some narrative.
Think about when you watch a movie, whether fiction or not, watch it, think about the content you're seeing. Most of the time, it will be a blend of dialogue and visual accented by music to assist with the emotion.
That's what I'm attempting to do. And if it seems all out of balance, which it obviously does for you, then I haven't gotten that blend right - which is a very strong indication of my lack of experience and creative talent.
So, that's not intended as a slight on myself, but just a reality of where I am with my skillset in this. This is all hobby/fun for me, I have a day job and a family. I'll get better over time, I promise! This is why I'm doing this, the process of growing, learning, exercising my brain - it drives all of this.
