Nice vid. I love mine!
Quick hint, if you get a chance put some anti-seize on your bolts. It will help from them locking up in case you need to remove them and you won’t strip any of the bolt heads.

Looks like it. I'm sure that's not something they teach in winching classes. Recovery hooks are there for a reason.

thousands of dollars in bumpers between the 2 vehicles only to recover from a tow ball :facepalm:
at least it was winching and not a kinetic recovery, but that still could have gone badly
also, didn't he back into that hole? why recover back instead of the way he went in? did someone walk the hole and just decide that was the better way?

As far as #52 goes... Just watched it.. Appreciate the vids and honesty of them.
Couple of things to consider....
-Snatch block will double your winching power and is a good choice for short line pulls.
-In that particular case I would have used a tree saver and snatch block to quickly level it off the slider and then come up with an exit plan. But I think you could have pulled it to the side and then it would have been much easier.
As for the Tacoma motor and misfires after being at an angle.. IF that is true.. WTF did Toyota do with that motor to cause so many problems and limitations. It's a truck.. not a Camry. Never seen any Toyota truck do that from being at an angle. If that is part of the design.. well then they have gone off the deep end for sure.

I don't think you need a winch. The guy getting stuck in the mud was purely his own fault. Seemed like he wanted to do it just to see if he could cross that mud hole. That's what happens when you play in the mud and why a lot of people on here avoid mud at all costs. He could have gone to the right side around the obstacle and his truck would have been dry as a bone. I'm not saying it he's dumb or made a stupid move, rather that this could been avoided by going around the obstacle. We all want to test the limits of our own skills and the truck but sometimes you have to live with the consequences of pushing the boundaries.
I'd say just avoid mud at all costs lol

I did it once with my (almost) brand new 4Runner. I'll be honest, it was a lot of fun, but will never do it again. Just not worth the messy, multi-day clean up afterwards not to mention worst case scenarios like what happened to the Tacoma.

I love your videos Jason, as a newbie to off-roading/overlanding it’s a motivating to see some of the things you go through and figure out. Top notch quality work and happy to see Tyler’s Tacoma is back on the road.

In wholeheartedly agree however since most of the stuff I do is by myself is may prove prudent to have the extra layer of protection.

Same here. I am always watching them as they come out. Subscribed on youtube. It's refreshing to see someone who ISN'T super experienced or at least admits he's not sure or doesn't know something. I think that's more similar to most offroad/4Runner enthusiasts, rather than experts or people who say they are.
Top not videos though. Great editing!
