Yeah, it does comes with a price, but it does work. Thats why I am here though, I can help with that being an Amsoil dealer. There could be cheaper units out there, honestly haven't searched.

Lol. My current system also works. Maybe I'm viewing this all wrong, but I don't think I need NASA grade products on my rig...

Lol... I hear ya man. There are situations where I think the protection will help, however it is probably overkill for most, just running Amsoil and filter will suffice. For me since I sell Amsoil, I use my truck as a guinnea pig so I can provide feedback on there products. Also, one time charge and I can use it on all my vehicles going forward. No pressure, just trying to provide information and those that would like to try Amsoil, I'm here to help.

Hi LeeMajors,

I can't necessarily say it comes down to 1 thing, such as detergent package, I feel it is more how all the individual components are designed to work together to create a better product as a whole. Every manufacturer has their own blend of base stocks/additives and can choose the quality level and amount of those they include to achieve their desired specs. I personally was interested in finding an oil that i could practice extended drain intervals, well beyond 5k. Amsoil fit the bill for me. I believe they start off with higher quality and levels of base stocks/additives, that maintain proper protection over the life of 1 yr or 15K miles. I personally have had no issues over the past 12 yrs of practicing extended drain intervals, nor have any of my customers. Some owners are not comfortable practicing 15k intervals and that's completely ok and their choice. Amsoil does offer 6mo/10K mi or 3mo/5k mi synthetic oils also. I tend to promote the longest life synthetics to provide the highest level of protection and maximum cost savings I can.

That being said, in no way shape or form am I trying to discredit Mobil 1, I will never say "Mobil 1 is garbage, Amsoil is the best period," can't convince me of anything else, lol. I do believe Mobil 1 is a good oil and many people/members have had great success with it, most change at 5k mi. Again, I was interested in 15K drain intervals and over the past 12yrs of using the product and data I can find on the internet, Amsoil exceeds for this application.

Hopefully this post won't derail this thread again as it should be about oversized filters, apologies if it does. If there is more interest in starting an oil thread, I'm in. I do have reservations as I have seen many go south quickly, for some reason this is a sensitive subject. The point would be to provide info, learn, educate... not bash each others choices. I'm always down to use my 4runner for testing and good or bad I will post my results. Let me know what you guys think.

I run SuperTech at 7,500 OCI and Blackstone says I could go quite a bit more. At $23/5qts. SuperTech comes out well under the Amsoil cost since I drive under 9k per year. It's also too bad they didn't test SuperTech, but the Blackstone results are enough for me.

I stopped by a Walmart last night (Riverdale NJ), SuperTech 5W-30 in 5qt jugs was $17 and change.

Yes. Toyota OEM filters are considered to be very good filters. I'd say a LOT of us on here run OEM filters with full synthetic oil. I have always run OEM filters, they are not that expensive at the dealer.

That was almost 3 years ago :laugh:

I don't use either anyway. Still have a lot of OEM V8 filters during my time working as a Lexus dealership technician

Since we are speaking about oil filters. Beware when you do Cadillac alternator upgrade. Almost impossible to get the new filter in through the side. Need to remove skid plate and do it from bottom.
