Owner input on their Rock Sliders

Looking to put some rock sliders on my '15 TEP asap.

Reading the forum, there are many choices and am leaning towards Rocky Roads Super Sliders or Meta Techs Trail Edition Sliders.

If you have either of these, can you provide some input:
- likes / dislikes
- installation
- wear (rust / powder-coat / bending)
- Trail Use / Protection / Clearance
- Step usability

If you have a different manufacturer, would be glad to hear your feedback too!

I've got Shrockworks. Love them. Easy to install and solid as a rock, no pun intended. Lower profile than most others, but they do what they're intended to do and do it well. The only drawback is the long delivery time, which I really think is unreasonable. My son ordered a set two months ago and will not receive them until December. In both of our cases we took advantage of group buys and saved a significant amount. There are few on the market that are as strong as what Shrockworks delivers. I've taken some significant hits with no damage.
 
I have the Metal Techs and like them a lot. Finally put them to use and they held up well barely a few rub marks and I took some solid hits to them. They also stick out enough to be sufficient steps which was one of the reasons I got them. MT makes them in batches so usually you can get them off the shelf with little turn around time if you don't want to wait for Shrockworks.

The MTs come powder coated which I guess is nice if you aren't going to use them, but if it didn't come with it, I wouldn't pay to get it since the hits you take will eventually remove the powder coat and you'll want to spray paint them with something to keep the bare metal from rusting.

I too have the Shrockworks.

I will start with my complaints:
1. Lead time as said above is ridiculous.
2. Only two legs going to the frame.
3. Narrow step not much sticking out.

And for the pros.
1. THEY WORK! Mine are pretty scuffed up and have been used often.
2. Haven't had any problems with mine. Put them on and forgot about them.
3. Even though they are narrow they can be used as a step.

If I were to get a new set of sliders though I would go with the Bud Built with the kick outs.
 
I have Rocky Roads and I like them.

Pros:

Fast delivery time. I ordered mine right after Christmas two years ago and had them by early January.

They have taken some hard hits and seem fine and protected the vehicle.

They are tucked in tight. (this is a pro for me, for others it may be a con) You can't really use them as a step.

They come powdercoated. The powdercoating is very high quality and shows no sign of wear yet, except from rock rash on the bottom.

Cons:

The mounting legs look kinda skinny. (I suspect if you were constantly dropping down from large heights right on the slider with the vehicle's full weight, this might be an issue, but so far for me it has not been.)

Overall, I have been very happy with them.
 
Yeah Mike has some great points there, and he also wheels his rig pretty hard.

I originally had some Rocky Road sliders delivered but wasn't overly impressed. I also needed something I could use for a step. The Rocky Roads are low profile and won't work well for a step.

Next I ordered the BudBuilt bumpouts with full tread. Got them delivered in like 2 weeks. Great customer service. And the way these mount to the frame is super solid.

For a slider... to me they are a thing of beauty. I mean just look at these things. :rockon:

^^^ I have the Budbuilt bumpouts as well. Service was great, and I had my sliders within a month of making the order, which isn't bad at all considering I'm up in Canada. They are a quality product and they are strong! I've had a chance to use them a few times now and they easily support the weight of the vehicle with almost no deflection. And yes, I have used them to hi-lift the vehicle as well. They work well as a step and there are no issues with clearance or bending so far, however they will deflect ~1/4" while supporting the full weight of the vehicle. As an added bonus, they really look sharp!
 
I have opor metaltech sliders and love them and have used them for their protection with only minor scuffs on them to show for it, but after seeing what [MENTION=64825]tomasallan[/MENTION] has in person I would highly reccomend his slider setup.
 
I've got 4x4 labs. Got some pics of my entire rig resting on one slider... No damage to slider or rig. I'd not even consider doing it differently. Same as the ones on [MENTION=64825]tomasallan[/MENTION]. ***** to install but once you do you'll be happy.

STX4Runner - do you have the regular rocky road sliders or the supersliders (supposed to have room for foot)?
 
4x4Labs all the way, as Ben and Steve stated above these things are stout and offer some of the best protection I've seen, like Ben I've had the weight of my truck on one of them and barely a very super tiny scratch.....

I`m watching this thread closely. I want to get sliders and was leaning towards the Rocky Road Super Sliders b/c I want something tucked in. Don't want a step or something to rub my pant leg getting it dirty :lol I can add confirmation about budbuilt's customer service and high quality product.

I have the super sliders on a 2011 SR5 and I would say maybe you can get a big toe on them. I'm sure it would be a different story if I removed the rocker trim. When I have to load/unload the roof rack or rooftop box I stand on a tire.

Was hoping those Rocky Road would have enough space to use as a mild step, doesn't appear to.

As for the glowing 4x4 Labs recommendation, I went to check it out, but their website is very limited. Couldn't find any pictures, details, or even prices on the sliders. Do you have a link to share?

Therese a lightweight rocker trim on the Trail Editions, does that need to be removed? Same with the "mud" flaps..cant believe this thing has mud flaps :-)

Shrockworks here. I have used them quite a bit and have no functional complaints with them. If I were to do it over I would probably get Bud's.

Luke doesn't do tons of updates to his site. Your going to have to look at our builds for pics. I can get you any you want if you PM me. They aren't cheap. They are similar to bud built beefy prices and they are heavy duty. Your pricing is going to be near 1k but they are more slider than anything I've ever seen. These require complete removal of the rocker trim no matter what trim level and removal of mud flaps as well. They tuck up high as possible and run straight into the frame with a smooth plate slider all the way in. U bolts are used to secure them to the frame.
 
I have had the OPOR sliders for a couple of years now. I bought them through Metal Tech and they arrived within two weeks if I remember correctly. Maybe sooner. At first I had sprayed them myself but the winter took a beating on them. I had them powder coated after that. They've gotten their fair share of use and are still holding up well.
