Ownership Cost

How do you guys feel your Runner has done in this department. I figure that even though I have dumped a lot of money into my machine, I'm still better off with this than any other vehicle, and that used Runner was still better than new cars.

My ownership cost is through the freaking roof. But I suppose that if I could get control on my mod sickness, it would be very cheap to own.

On a new vehicle depreciation factors in a lot more.

Two bad things about older vehicles:

1) Gas mileage - it's money out the window.
2) Any modifications have little to no returns.

If you run it stock, I think they are great with exception to being a little less efficient then a newer vehicle. Really any additional money you put into it is lost.

You can feel as if the 4runner is a money pit, the parts alone are not cheap. I do miss sometimes working on American cars for the replacement cost factor alone.

But the attributes outweigh the costs IMHO. This 3rd gen engine is easy to work on, quite reliable for the most part, and most everyone on here is quite aware of the three or four major problems of this generation of 4runner to prevent major headaches. It does everything I need for it to and more. Modding can be expensive to say the least.

The most satisfaction I have is when other drivers stop me at stop lights and ask me if I have had my 4Runner in storage, housed in a garage, or in grandma's basement since it still looks good.
