oxidation?

I believe it's oxidation or maybe it's just a really bad wax job. It almost looks like the paint is chipping horribly but when you rub it, the silver that looks like the bare hood is exposed chips off and the paint appears under it. It's not too easy to chip off so i was wondering if someone knows of something I can use to remove this.

Sorry if this was posted about before, I just registered and actually just bought my 4runner today. lol

Thanks in advance. :)

Turns out after taking it to a professional, it's the clear coat that has dried and flaking off on the hood. Thanks for the responses. ;)

Hood on my black '03 is doing same thing -- did they say what the fix was other than sand and repait the entire hood??

Nope, but i buffed it and waxed it and it's not AS bad. It's still noticable but not nearly as bad. It helps blend it together and flake off the loose stuff. I still have plans of having it all repainted and everything though once I pay off my credit card and a few bills.

It's better to drive your car to the car wash. They will have specialized tools to fix your problem.

My 02 has the same issue. I am going to try painting the hood at home. I figure it cant get much worse than it already is

If you buy decent quality paint and even reasonable spray guns you can pull of a pretty nice paint job.

Spend some time researching and you'll probably be happy with your results.
