Oxygen sensor and bugged-up thread

Got started today replacing my drivers side front O2 sensor (bank 1, sensor 1) as the heater for the sensor died. No resistance across the two black wires. My new O2 sensor measures 9.5 ohms. My dashboard was lit up and clued me onto to this. Anyway taking the sensor off was not so good. It started to come off well and then the last revolution it froze up and galled! I even shot it 5 or 6 times an hour before removing it with PB-Blaster. I got it off but as you can see from the photo, the first thread is stripped. So I bought a universal sensor, Bosch, and started the wiring. I will go to the auto store and look for an 18 mm straight tap for the exhaust manifold. I want to chase those threads before even starting to replace the new.

How much was a universal vs Toyota?

EDIT: Toyota O2 sensors seems to be $120 plus or minus online so it's $120 plus shipping:bugeye:

I got mine at Rockauto.com for $ 56 for the Bosch pn# 15733. Partznet has direct replacement ones for $ 122. But I do not mind the extra wiring for the aftermarket ones.

Let me know how the universal works. I Have tried them in the past and either the front or rear wouldn't work right. So I ended up having to run one universal and one from Yota.

I recently tried to use an oxygen thread chaser (as seen on the left of the photo) to clean up my O2 sensor threads as I F

This is an old favorite of mine. Another modified tool for removing the oxygen sensor. Cut one end off and grind the outside of the jaws down. The correct wrench is a 22mm open-end but I used a 7/8inch.

Good tips! I have a few 'special' wrenches too... Sometimes you have no choice

Thanks for the writeup greasefingers. For the record, I've never had luck with Lisle specialty tools either. They seem to use schitty metal.
