Yes, I still keep this P4/800 PC up for games and such. Cheap CPUs out there now, got a 3.0/800 for less than $7.00 and installed, trying to get the square type Intel H/S back on is the problem. Almost ready to pull the mobo out, but I can see all around it. I can get 3 legs down, that's all. thanks all

Next day , I pulled it off and reinstalled in, same with Video card and used up all the canned air to clean things up. Boots fine (after that thermal shutdown) in Safe mood only. Updated utilities, trying for a full boot, may be too hot of a CPU --2.4--3.0?? still playing with it. 6 case fans should help. fun times
Busy today, but if it runs 25+ minutes updating in Safe Mood, no reason that it should not run Windows. Tomorrow I will pop the 2.4 back in and test. Maybe this 3.0/800 was O/C or something. fun times, forgot how much fun the P4s were. The BIOS temp reads 46C/114F. but if Safe Mood runs, I can't see a reason why it doesn't work. fun

Not to sound like a hater but that seems a bit dated. Now as for myself I'm running a 2010 i7 970 6-core chip @ 3.7GHz but with 6 true cores at 3.7 it is actually a screamer! I have been thinking about upgrading and might do it once Intel sorts out this whole Meltdown & Spectre BS vulnerabilities.
More power to you with bringing that P4 back to life.

* Burn a linux OS to CD and boot from disc then run memory and CPU test utilities
