P0100

I recently got a P0306 code - misfire on cylinder 6. Today I changed plugs (OEM Denso from Toyota), wires (NGK), cleaned the throttle body (with Seafoam) and the MAF (with MAF spray cleaner). Put it all back together and it idles nicely at just above 1200.

However when I want to go somewhere, it bogs down and stalls. The CEL came on and I got P0100 and P0101. I again removed the MAF and cleaned it again, and cleaned the connectors. Replaced it all and started it again.

Great idle, 1200 or so. I backed down the driveway with only one stall out. Drove in the neighborhood. It feels good under 25mph. Then, pushing on the gas causes it to bog down. Going up a hill and I push on the accelerator again, it bogs and feels like it will die. Coming back down the hill felt great!

I get back home, clear the code. Turn off the car, start it up again and immediately the CEL is back on with one code P0100.

Do I need a new MAF? Did I perhaps clean it and hurt it? I checked and it looks like I have all of the hoses back where they belong.

Ideas? I have to use this car for work, and right now it can't be driven in normal traffic.

thanks
Joe

Sounds like it might have died. I never clean a maf unless I get the code. I avoid any oil air filters and any cleaners unless needed.

Have a buddy with a 4runner you can swap mafs with for a test?

Also since you did so much work you need to inspect the wires behind the throttle body and at the maf sensor to make sure they are not damaged. Could be a wiring harness issue.

no... no other 4runner friends, or Tacoma friends, around where I live.

So... I guess I'll just go buy one.
I'm hoping rebuilt is ok?

I would look for one at a local junkyard. Or try one from part store as a test. Make sure its not a wiring issue.

I've cleaned the wiring connection, both sides, and it looks like both sides are in tact. I can't find anything else i've neglected to plug in or connect...

Well, I'll go to the part store in the morning and hopefully that fixes it.

Is there anything besides the actual MAF sensor that can cause a P0100 code?

Let this be a warning! Be careful cleaning the MAF.

I was not rough on it at all. I had a very soft brush that I soaked in MAF Cleaner and I brushed everything and made it shine nicely. That was enough to break it.

I replaced the MAF (they aren't cheap) and now it runs like a dream.

Yeah, all the how-tos say NEVER to touch the MAF wire with anything. Just spray with MAF cleaner. I clean mine that way every 30k since new when I do my plugs and no issues to date.

NEVER NEVER NEVER touch the MAF sensor. You spray it with MAF cleaner (NOT contact cleaner). Let it dry and thats it.
