P0430 Troubleshooting question

Got P0430 code and changed out O2 sensor. Live in NY state which requires inspection testing etc... CEL is off but driven it 130 mi. and computer is still reading not ready. New O2 sensor is not giving a reading but says constant voltage like the other sensors. Mechanic is telling me to drive it some more. My question is shouldn't the sensor I replaced be giving a reading? TIA

The vehicle should be getting a read out of the sO2 Sensor regardless of the initialization period. If the fitting is not seated all the way, it might be why you are not getting a reading from the new sensor.

Chances are if the sensor was bad or had a bad connection it would have set a code already. 430 is low inefficiency not a solidly failed sensor. This code could be caused by an exhaust leak, weak cat or old sensor. I have the same code, it comes up now and then but then goes months with no code. You may not have done enough drive cycles yet, some cars have to be started/stopped a few times and driven at multiple speeds like some around town and highway. BTW, I noticed that these inefficiency codes seem to stay away when the car has hi octane fuel in it. Whenever my niece's Camry needed to pass inspection I would have her drive it with a full tank of the good stuff the week before and it never failed for a CEL but the light always came back on the cheap stuff.
