I have a 2002 I bought from a friend. Very strong and runs perfect, but throws the dreaded P00442 or P0440 code often. She had the canister replaced with a used one unfortunately. Strange thing is when I start it, if I will put it in gear and back out of drive or go just a few feet, then back to park, kill it, re-start, it will not throw code all day....could the code be from the check valve on gas tank or is it just another bad canister? ....any advice greatly appreciated.

Although if the charcoal canister has been replaced I would try either the check valve or the gas cap, both are pretty inexpensive. Strange that it would go away with that combination of maneuvers.
