P0755

The wife was driving the 4Runner around today and the CEL comes on. I check the code, P0755, shift solinoid B, comes up. She was just driving on surface streets, probably didn't get above 50.

She said it drove just fine.

My question:
Is it safe to drive, or will I possibly cause damage?

97' with 136K, never had any engine or tranny problems before. Had all fluids changed 6mos ago.

I'll take it to the shop tomorrow, if they're open...

Thanks!
Matt

Me too

This just happened to me today too. What did you find out?? I have a 2000 4r that is in perfect condition. The light came on while the truck was idling. The thing runs fine and shifts when it should?? Going to clear code and pray, but am curious about what you found out.
Thanks

Sorry to bring up an old thread- I've searched and found a few other threads for the P0755 code (shift solenoid valve no. 2/OFF malfunction), but are kind of left unanswered like this one.

Maybe once a month my '98 Limited will act like it doesn't want to shift into Over Drive. I've found that just bringing it to a stop, shifting into Park, clicking the OD off button off and on, then shifting back into Drive and shifting/OD is normal again. I think in my case, the SSV #2 just gets stuck open or closed.

I picked my '98 Limited up in February with 258k on the clock (now 260.5k). I've got excellently-detailed maintenance records, but only going back to 226k with no trans fluid changes mentioned, so I'll likely do this to see if the new fluid might help to un-gunk the solenoid.

I've done the drain and fill trans change on my girlfriend's '00 SR5 runner, but I'm unsure if I want to deal with the PITA again... I saw some nice coupons for the Big O (formerly NTB her in MN). When I get the fluid change, as it's due in my mind, I'll report back on this thread of any changes in behavior. Otherwise, doesn't seem like a big deal in my case, as what I said above clears up any shifty goofiness I have.

Cheers

Drain and fill is a pain? Not sure what went wrong... of course I replaced the sealant with a cork gasket which you can get from NAPA or other auto stores, made it simple to put back together.

The shift solenoid is just on the valve body. I've done a complete valve body modication, THAT was hard. The solenoids are not so hard. You just remove the filter, then the valve body above it, then one screw holds the solenoid in question on. May not even have to remove the valve body at all depending on which one.

gamefreakgc, thanks for the info for the solenoid- if it's just right in by the filter, that sounds like cake compared to the valve mod- kudos on that.

Ah maybe I shouldn't have said "pain"... more like I'm just lazy. Anywho, still have yet to put my B&M 70268 on this Runner, so thinking I'll do that today, along with a drain and fill. So now you've got me thinking, as long as I'm doing all that, I'm thinking I should do the trans filter, gasket and get in there and check out the solenoid under the valve body. Wish I would have had one less cocktail last night...

Thank you again for the added info- helping me out a lot here. Much appreciated.

I thought there was a write-up somewhere but cannot find it.

Here's a few that will help though:

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/217174-shift-solenoid-code.html

There's 3 different valve body configurations for our 4Runners so I'm not sure which one you have.

My apologies, my response timed out yesterday. Thank you so much for the links, that's a huge help.

Right now I've got the cooler installed and the tranny fluid is right on the level. If I hadn't have spent time cleaning out the garage I probably would have had time to drop the pan and do the filter in the same day. Found a broken sway bar end link while I was under there too (an excuse to replace all 4 along with poly bushings now :clap2:).

I'm going to keep driving it and likely wait til the solenoid acts up again before dropping the pan. In the mean time, I'll shop for a decent filter, probably Beck Arnley, and a solenoid #2 as well to have on hand.

I'll updated as things happen.

Thanks again for the help- much appreciated!
