Hi,
I am running 255/75/17 MT takeoffs on my 2013 4Runner and have been generally pleased with the performance off road. The only problems I have had are THREE flats in the past six months.

I have run Load Range E tires, usually Michelin, all of my adult life. Previously, I was running 235/80/17 Load Range E Michelin AT/2s but found that they did not work as well out west as they did in Maine where I used to live. This summer I had three flats on the BFG MTs, all in the right front. Two of them were road debris up through the tread and were plugged. The third was a catastrophic sidewall cut off road that I was able to repair in the field and limp out of the woods with.

I wound up buying two more new takeoffs, putting them on the front By keeping an eye on Craigslist, I can usually find these new for around $100 per tire. I will be going back to Load Range E tires as soon as I run these down far enough. In the interim, I have added significantly to my tire repair capabilities and expertise.

Does anyone else have experience with the 235/80/17 tire? I am looking at either these or the 255/75/17. The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger on the 235's is that they are all E rated and very heavy. I suppose this is because they are all made for dually trucks and I will not find a C rated 235. Anyone thoughts?

Gotta 2nd this. I know the ATW was highly rated from Canadian Tire, where it did very well in the snow and had the highest hydroplaning resistance. This would be very useful in snowy/wet highway conditions. Other reviewers also seemed to love this tire. I probably would have gotten these, had I not just picked up a pair of dedicated winter tires.

I just put a set on my 2013 SR5 in 265/70/17. Unfortunately there's no C-rated version yet (contra BFG KO2s).

Happy with them so far. Quiet on road. Plan on lots of use in the Northern Sierra this winter.

I dug up this old thread. I had the same question.

I have a chance to pick up a very cheap set of JK Rubicon BFG take-offs. Size is LT255/75R17 - numerically skinnier, but with squarer shoulders. About 3/4" larger radius, though (~32" dia). I have not yet lifted my new 2018, but I will soon. But these tires are available for a limited time - I need to act fast. Should I worry very much about rubbing?

I see mixed answers elsewhere, especially because people strart to drift toward 255/80R17, which is a significantly taller 33" size. I know those tall boys will rub without a lift, but I'm less certain about the 255/75.

And, make no mistake, a lift is in the cards. I expect this quandry to last no more than a couple of months.

Thanks

There's guys in this thread running that exact tire and report no or very minor rubbing, on stock wheels. After market wheels with different specs could change that.

I'll be doing 255/75/17SL Duratracs on FJC 8 hole wheels on our '15 Ltd. in the next few weeks, but I'm likely going to install my 1" Cornfed front spacer lift beforehand so I can have an alignment done at the same time as the tires are mounted. If I had nothing but spare time I'd mount the tires 1st, check for rubbing, then install the lift and get the alignment done, but it doesn't look like it's in the cards.

They should fit just fine.

Lift will not help with the rub. If it fits with a lift - it also fits stock height. It's just the nature of IFS.

There are a number of threads on 255/75s and 255/80s on here with lots of opinions LOL

I went with 255/80R17 Toyo RTs. I'm very happy with them, it is my daily and with 3" lift and roof rack I'm still getting 16+ mpg.
