Paint cracking on 07 Limited. Need help...

So it's been about 2 months since I washed our 4Runner due to travel. It's been waxed every 4-6 months for the 4+ years I've owned it always getting 2 coats of Zaino. I went to wash it today as saw this:

It's about 7-8" long and 1/2" wide along the ridge under the rear window. The clear coat looks to be completely gone. The paint is about ready to come off. I went over the rest of the paint and didn't see anything else like this.

I really don't want to respray the entire hatch for this small area. My initial thought:

1 - Sand the chipping area
2 - Mask off and spray primer (rattle can)
3 - Apply touch up paint in multiple coats.
4 - Wet sand touch up paint.
5 - Spray clear (rattle can) and wet sand if it needs clear.

Good idea? Horrible idea? Recommendations?

Once your clearcoat goes, it's all over. The only thing you can do is repaint - basecoat+clearcoat.

Sorry to say there are no other options.

Been there, had that happen.

Edit: You cannot spot paint; you have to do the entire liftgate.

If it's happening there, then it's also happening elsewhere.

Look at your roof real good and also the top of your flares (basically any horizontal surface).
