Paint Issue. Need your input.

So I bought a new paint to order bumper off of eBay and what I got was significantly whiter than the rest of the body. Is this. A: A mistake on the paint shop. B. In need of a clear coat. C. In need if 9 years of uv damage. D. A coat of wax. Or E: something else?

And you used the right paint code? I tried this but with Amazon and got the exact color match. Clear coat doesn't change color. Wax protects, also doesn't alter color. UV and elements would damage, but depends on the vehicles store history (garage/outside 24/7) but wouldn't affect color that much unless the vehicle was poorly cared for. Being a white paint, it's hard to see any fading besides the clear coat diminishing.

Yeah. Paint code is 056. I am painting the little filler pieces with a can of 056 just to prove the point. Or and they need it.

I painted my old bumper cover with rattle cans of 056 and it matched perfect.

Sounds to me that the paint mix was a bit off, when I paint a bumper I use part of your old bumper to take in the Spray Booth with me and if the original mix in a bit off I will tint the base color, and use the old piece as a sprayout panel to check color till its correct.

Well, this was an ebay order from a place in Michigan so that would have been difficult. But I do think you are right. Here is a pic I took this morning. The bumper is noticeably whiter than the rest of the vehicle however, if you look at the trim piece under the headlight, it is the same color as the rest of the car. This is important to note because I just rattle canned it last night with a can of 056. the color code for this car and the color code I sent them.

As a note, 056 isn't supposed to have a clear coat.

ok so after sending that pic and an explanation to the seller they agreed that they didn't even come close on the mix. so they offered for me to get a quote to have it resprayed locally and they will pick up the bill. So far seems to be a fair company I am dealing with.

I just looked that color code up for 056 basecoat , I own a body shop and we mix Onyx water based basecoat made by BASF, there is an updated color mix on it, which means someone actually sent a piece of that color car to the BASF paint lab and they made a mix that actually matched.

I have run into bad color match on some new 16 model Subarus, which makes it a pain to tint, cause they are new fancy metallic colors.

Looks like your bumper just needs a little extra yellow or gold in the mix.

056 has to be clear coated or the bumper would only have the base coat color on it and would look dull. Clearcoat has been used on all factory painted vehicles since the Late 80s early 90s

I know for sure my sons Tacoma, 2007 code 056, doesn't have a clear coat. I also have an old sales guide that says the white isn't clear coated.
