Mine did not have it when I purchased it & I inquired about having it installed. I was told 2 things:
1) They could not do it, seems it is a factory only option (cough, cough, BS)
2) I would not want it because 'a lot of people complain about it over time' & when removed after a few year there can be differences in paint colors. (dont know how true that is either)
I know they make it aftermarket so you can purchases and install yourself. I am not too concerned with the plastic all around, if there was metal I would go that route.

I had on my BMW, it was a nightmare. Though it was installed in 2004, and prolly on the car for 5 years (too long, they break down) Had to pay an installer to remove. 400 bucks and they scratched up the paint. Maybe the advancement in the product has happened over the years but i will tell you it looked like poor after a couple of years from the sun and was impossible to take off. I tried everything, heat gun, goo gone, pliable credit card softly. Spent over an hour doing a 5"x5" area. I won't get again. I'd rather save the money for the install and de-install to have hood and bumper painted.
It is a money grab. Another product to pad the industry's profits. Period.
The reality is, unless you are planning to saran wrap your entire car with this crap you are (I repeat ARE) going to get a rock chip somewhere on your car.
There is no point. I had a similar problem as you. The stuff started lifting on the edges (which it will do regardless of who did the install) and letting in dirt underneath slowly but surely...this will do bad things over time. I decided to abandon it and took it off myself. Came off relatively easy because it had only been on the car for a few months. When I took it off I realized that the knob that installed it actually cut into the paint on the car while "trimming"...very bad experience....they replaced the whole grill of the truck as a result...fortunately the cutting into the paint was isolated to that area...
These problems aside, it is just not practical to think that it will hold up to the elements...they claim it will...warranty this, warranty that...BS...oh yeah, and guaranteed not to fade your car...more BS.
They know that the average person will hopefully sell the car before problems arise with fading etc and that they will not need to deal with it etc...
Cynical but realistic I think...
If I were you I would just take it off your vehicle. I lost a lot of money doing so but in the end I owned up to my mistake and took it as a costly lesson.
It's like a lot of things in life --> Too good to be true.

Just go look at some of the install jobs of this stuff at different manufacturer dealerships...car they have on the floor even...
I started noticing after the fact the exact same thing on these vehicles as was occuring on mine...it is such a farse...
I'm sure some places don't even want to sell the product because they know the problems inherent to it...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm surprised to hear of the problems. I first heard of the product through a guy I met with a Lambo and the guy I use does this on cars for the local Ferrari dealer. I did not get it on one of my previous cars and wished I did because after about 15,000 miles the front of the car looked like it got shot with a shotgun. I put it on one of my others and have been happy not to have any rock chips. I guess if it does damage to the front paint, I'll repaint it when the time comes and figure that I'd be repainting it anyway if it was chipped up. At least then I won't be looking at the rock chips until it gets painted.
For anyone considering it, I used Venture Shield this time rather than the 3M product. Installers using each product swear it's better than the other. Venture Shield does not seem as visible when you look at the car.

Strangely enough, I just learned that my TE came with the plastic coating on the rocker panels. I'm not sure if this is factory standard on the TE or part of the distributor "Toyoguard" package. But when I went through the car wash this weekend, the wash guy pre-treated the rockers with a pressure washer and started a very minor peeling of it in a few spots. Not good - I'd prefer not to have it.

:iagree: Even with a full wrap, there will still be chips. I have chips on the very edge of my fenders and in the gap where the headlight meets. Film would not have protected that area. I know I would have a lot less chips, but spending a few hundred bucks, I want no chips at all.
I contemplated getting my '06 wrapped, not the entire rig, but entire front clip. Full hood, fenders, bumper and mirrors. I can't stand how the 6" or 12" strips look on the hood and bumper. Where the film stops is very noticeable midway up the hood and fenders. Every car I've seen up close or that I pull up next to, I notice the seam where the film stops.

I have these on my lower rockers. I'm glad they are on down there. But as i mentioned before i'm not going to add to hood or front. Didn't have good luck on my other car. I think its very hidden down below and don't seem to mind down there. I think they gave me the toyoguard package too. Does everyone have this?
