Paint protection under the license plate

I was taking the dealer installed lic. frames off of my wifes new T4R, and notice that there is nothing to keep the new frames from rubbing the paint off over time. Is there something you can recommend to keep the plate & frame from touching the paint, or am i just being a picky old fart?

Two thoughts
First you can buy some small patches of velcro and use that as a bumper. You are trying to keep the plate and paint from touching. Second - I got some cheap clear bra film at an auto parts store. Cut a tag sized section and apply to paint

Protecting that area is a smart idea that most don’t think about. As Ghostrider mentioned, having a piece installed right there will do the trick and protect that area. Best bet is to find an installer nearby and have them use a plotter (paint protection film cutting machine) to cut a piece that’ll fit the dimensions of the area you’re looking to protect.

While you’re at the installer, you can always look into protecting the other high impact areas of the 4Runner. These are typically the bumper, headlights, mirrors, and 12-18” up the hood and fenders. This will give you good protection for the road ahead while also making the front end much easier to clean and maintain.

What I do is i used the sticky furniture stubs behind the license plate to stop from the annoying chatter. Something that you can use that I use on my door jams and door sills are plastic tabs.

Go to ACE Hardware and pick up a couple of thick rubber washers. They come in variouos thicknesses. Works great!

If you need more offset, use two rubber washes with a fiber washer in the middle. Again, it works great!

I go to a hardware store and buy a roll of the foam strips used to seal windows
and cut off pieces and line the back of the plate. It is self adhesive, holds up well (even in Texas heat), and it's pretty cheap.
