Paint rubbed off on rear hatch - how to fix?

Just picked up this 4Runner today. Got a heck of a deal on it, but it has a little blemishes here and there. The one that I want to take care of first is the missing paint on the rear hatch. It seems like it rubbed off somehow due to friction or something.

I don't know that touch up paint would do the job for the area. It's about dime sized. I've heard that people have a hard time with touch up paint matching correctly anyways.

What do you guys recommend for this fix? Something I can easily do myself or should I have a body shop take a look?

Damn, that's right down to the primer. The original paint/clearcoat still looks great, according to your pics. Do you have any auto body experience? If not, I'd let a shop take a look at it an give you a quote. That can probably be fixed up for around $200.00

Unfortunately I don't. It doesn't have to look super pretty, I just don't want the scrape there. It looks like it might need some sort of filler to smooth it out and then I'll paint over that spot. Just not sure what to do. $200 is a lot to fix just that...

A real cheap "fix " is to buy some Toyota touch-up paint. The color match is accurate unless your paint has faded. It will take several very thin coats and may need a top coat of clear. You will want to apply some primer first if that scrape goes to bare metal. Toyota paint runs about $12 for a about an ounce. More than enough for that. It utilizes a small brush which may leave visible brush marks. You can usually order the factory paint in a spray can if you want a better finish. That requires a bit more work in masking the area off. Might be worth it though.
