Paint scratch

Just some information needed:

I was pulling into the mall and at the right turn, a used car dealer lot had some decorations (metal rods) pointed towards the road due to some winds we had last night. Those rods made a few scratches on the bottom of my front passenger door.

I want to repaint. Should I call my insurance or call the car lot and inform what their decorations did to my car?

Kind of hard to prove it was their fault. Especially after the fact. Did you inform them when it happened? If not. I would think you will have a hard time getting them to pony up for repairs. Depending on the damage and your deductible amount, it may be cheaper to pay out of pocket.
