Anyone know how to paint my 3rd generation front and rear chrome bumpers to black?

strip the chrome off a apply some black paint. Chrome is really hard to come off though.

If it was me, just buy some black bumpers of e-bay and be done with it.

I just spray painted over the exhausting chrome bumper without doing any prep and it hold up well, it will show the chrome again if you scratch it but it's just a cheap can of spray paint that it's a simple fix.

I talked to a few professional painters about getting my chrome bumpers painted and they all said the same thing . . . it wont last. Maybe a year or two. So I ended up finding bumpers that were already painting. I would suggest getting an aftermarket bumper thats already primed and then have it painted. If youre set on painting the chrome then use an 80 grit sandpaper and rough it up really good (which is a ton of work), then use self-etching primer.

I did PlastiDip on my friends 4runner we did both bumpers grill and wheels came out great that was a few months ago and maybe about 5,000 miles of very hard use (surfing, yosemite, construction, he also lives at the beach) and its holding up very well. Its not perfect but it still looks great from 5 feet away. It was super easy to do and cheap! Check out you tube for directions.
I think we used something like 6-7 cans.

I found one by discount body parts for $40. Is that too cheap? It's steel and painted apparently.
