I used SEM color matched black to paint mine. It came out fine, though considering the price of SEM spray paints it didnt come out as nicely as I thought it would. I know I beat this like a dead horse, but nothing out there compares with Rust Oleum's consistancy, finish, and durability when it comes to paint in a spray can. I wish they made color matching stuff like SEM and Duplicolor do

I used rust oleum black gloss "paint for plastic." Masked my gate off, removed my emblem, lightly sanded with a sponge style 300 grit sanding block, then 2 coats of paint. 8 months and still looks great. Also did my bumper top as you can see, same paint.

I ended up taking the whole thing off, what a pain. Taping would have been easier. Used rust oleum hammered finish. I touched it too soon and left a thumb print lol. Had to spray back over it a few times.

So everyone is saying they don't come off very easy? I guess I will just tape it up real good and do it that way.

I painted mine with the duplicolor perfect match stuff at autozone. I think the color I went with was something like "phantom grey metallic" or something. It was a very close match to the color it originally was.

I painted mine with rattle can bedliner, to match my bumpers. I took mine all the way off the vehicle, and I would strongly advise just masking and painting in place. Don't have a pic handy but if you really want to see a pic PM me and I'll send you one later.

Question for those of you that have painted this part. I have a '99 Limited and it has a rubber gasket/seal around it. I can't tell from the pictures in this thread if yours has that gasket/seal also, but if it does, did you tape it off or paint it?

Dont bother taking it off. Way too much work!
I sliced open my finger pretty badly when it got stuck between the rear window gears.. its a tight space to work in
Also sand it dont and use adhesion promoter, if you are going to color match test the color first.
I had a can of PPG made that was supposed to be millenium silver and it didn't match at all, I only noticed after I was all finished because I had removed the piece and painted it away from my car.
Also no spray cans from my experience spray as consistently and as well as rustoleum, they have considerably more pressure than all other cans I have used. Of course its not an option if you want to color match.

What brand is recommended to get as near to OEM as possible? I have a black '01

should i do the 3 part, etching primer, paint, clear?
or hit it with a couple light coats of paint for plastic?

I consider my paint to be in good condition and i don't want the license frame
to look dull or have a bed liner look i want it to have a gloss and blend with the rest of the truck.

Painted it black with regular spray paint. Needs to get re-done. This time with plasti-dip to match the bumpers.

Working on a storm trooper build? So much white! Could be awesome if done right. I need to paint mine. Anyone with the Imperial Green Mica paint there's to match? Or should I go black to match the emblems (and tires some day)?
