Painting the black trim on running boards

The black trim on my running boards is starting to fade and I was wondering what type of spray paint would work best for this application? Secondly, before applying paint, what type of "prep-work" is required: llight sanding, rubbing the trim down with a cleaner (degreaser, alcohol, etc)? As always, thanks for everyone's help!

It's actually kinda rubbery. I don't think any paint is going to stick very well. Maybe try some non-slick tire shine instead? Or Back-to-Black?

I'd goto an auto paint supplier. There are plastic adhesion promoters that will work. Bulldog makes one. Then I'd suggest using a truck bed liner or other heavy duty coating. Paint will wear off too quickly.

i second the back to black. i just bought some and it cleans it up pretty nice. you gotta use some muscle to get it looking nice though. if you want it darker id sugjest what was said above by rook. i dont think paint would be the best choice. those running boards go through a lot

If you decide to paint, use Duplicolor Vinyl Color paint. You can pick it up at an autozone or advance auto parts where the spray paints are. Prep would involve washing with soap and water, allow to dry completely, wipe with alcohol, and spray.

Eventually back to black will stop working. Duplicolor makes a trim spray. Tape off what you don't want painted and spray away.

I use Black Again on my running boards and they clean up really well. If you want to paint, try using that bedliner stuff as it'll give you more traction on the running boards so your shoes don't slip.
