Painting Turn Signals and Body Lift Question

First question: Can you paint the interior of the 99-02 turn signals? After painting my bumper black the turn signals stick out like a sore thumb. I'd like to open them up and paint them black as well, but not sure if it's possible or if it will leak/break them. Also will it make them significantly less visible?



Second question: Has anyone put on a body lift without using a Hi-Lift? I'm still debating putting one on, but most instructions say to use a Hi-Lift as a normal jack probably won't reach. I don't have a Hi-Lift or know anyone with one that is local.

If you open them up and paint them, you ruin the reflector bowl. The only thing I would recommend is that chrome tint spray. It just darkens shiny surfaces and leave the reflectiveness in tact, or so them claim.

I did my body lift with a regular floor jack and a 2x4 on top of it with oem running boards still installed which helped a lot.

I can be the guinea pig on the turn signals. I plan on painting the valence on my bumper within the next couple weeks and while I have the turn signals out, I'll give it a shot. I got aftermarket clear ones on ebay and they are crap anyway. They aren't even sealed and water leaked in, so I'll try and paint the inside black in a couple weeks and see how it goes. The only thing is then the amber bulb will be really noticeable... If worst comes to worst, I can just swap in my old turn signals.

A regular floor or bottle jack will work if you crib it up with some lumber. I lifted mine with a jack and a 3' long 2x4 underneath the pinch weld underneath the doors.
