Palo Duro Canyon, TX

Anyone ever go wheeling out there? I've been to the park but only recently learned they had great 4x4 trails. How difficult are the trails, what requirements should vehicles have? I'm looking for info and a possible meetup out that way after the New Year if anyone is interested.

Are you talking about the Canadian River north of Amarillo? If so, there is a lot of wheeling there. Its just following the riverbed and is pretty fun. There is no wheeling that I know of in Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

There are great trails in Palo Duro Canyon....lots of rocks.....unfortunately the location is a private ranch (Figure 3 Ranch) with a lease owned by the local Jeep club......and anyone who goes, goes with the Jeep club in only a Jeep. There are two organized runs, Jeep Jamboree and Jeep Challenge....other than that, only work trips.

There are trails at the Canadian River, North of Amarillo....but mostly obstacles (of many sizes) and mild trails getting between these obstacles. Can make for a fun 1/2 day of wheeling tho.

^^^ and they are anal about the Jeep thing.. I guess they have that right but you'd think they would let anyone wanting to participate join just to have a good amount of members. The Canadian River trail is ok but in all honesty if you live in Dallas, it's not worth the drive..

Wow, thanks for the input. Shame the Jeep guys are that snobby. I do love going to Palo Duro for camping/outdoor fun so I'll have to check out the river trails. If y'all have anything coming up that takes you out that way, maybe a bunch of us can meet up.

Reviving an old post. I am glad I read this as I was planning a trip with some friends for a camping/wheeling trip. Its a shame that it is for jeeps only, guess we'll go to plan b: Ouachita and Ozark
