Panasonic Battery

I asked the salesman at AutoZone that i need distilled water for my battery and he recommended me the real stuff. He kinda laughed that they don't put .99 cent distilled water on their new batteries.

That would only be funny if you were pouring sulfuric in a new battery, but you're not.
 
Battery acid? LOL, I think you paid $5 for a bottle of water. I've never heard of anyone selling battery acid. You only need to add water to a battery, not acid.

I'm surprised they didn't sell you some blinker fluid while they were at it!

You can buy sulfuric acid (battery fluid) at Home Depot for their empty 12 volt batteries that they sell for the backup sump pump systems.
 
He knows that i know that i am not. I'm surprised they don't even carry distilled water. Oh well, i already filled up my battery to par.

It's probably not an issue....but you could have picked up a gallon of distilled water at the grocery store for $.99.

I prolly would do that after this bottle is empty. But i've noticed some differences. Engine turned on like a caddy, headlights, foglights and interior lights got brighter, stereo didn't miss a note, and ride got smoother.

After the engine turns on, most of the electricity supplied to those components come from the alternator.

Speaking of which, I wonder what % of the owners out there have their T4R's sip premium vice regular.

Before i filled up my battery, i used to get a 1-2 second (hesitation) before it starts. Now it starts like a champ. I also pour 91 octane (Shell).
 
I didn't know the Panasonic battery required maintenance. I will check the water level tomorrow, this thread is a good reminder.

You don't want to go adding more acid (H+'s) into the battery. Only water leaves, so you only want to replace water.

Some people here obviously don't understand that fact. I'm still LMAO that anyone would pour acid into a car battery. If anything, that would do more harm than good because it would upset the specific gravity of the battery.

The only thing that makes sense in this thread is when someone said that acid is sold to add to a new (dry) battery not used for a car. That I can understand, but car batteries are not sold dry. So anyone adding acid is likely doing more harm than good. Mike'sToy probably wrecked his battery and doesn't even realize it.

Wrecked??? Geeeee... You must be brutal. :rockthrow: I'm not a scientist or chemist or anything but what i poured was a premixed (electrolyte w/c contains sulfuric acid) like i said earlier. If i poured sulfuric acid alone, i don't think the plastic bottle could handle it. Also, it's not like i poured the whole bottle equally on 6 cells but only approx 3 tablespoons on each cell. Now considering my battery is 7 yrs old, that's 7 yrs the original battery acid being in there. Would it be still strong enough to energize if i poured distilled water? I don't know. But as of now my battery looks fine (no leaks, no bubbles, notta) since i topped it off last Saturday. Blue indicator is bright blue. My 4R hasn't exploded yet. :lol: If all fails, then it's my fault. I'll be posting in here. Only time could tell. :peace:

Well, I said probably because I have no way of knowing how much acid you put into your battery. But as others have mentioned, you should never add acid to a battery....only add water. The reason is simple---only the water in a battery evaporates, so if you replace the water you will bring the battery back to where it was when new. The acid doesn't "wear out" so age doesn't matter. The moral of the story is to be careful when you decide to listen to some guy an Autozone or other similar auto parts stores. A lot of those guys don't know jack shit about cars, but they don't like to admit it.

You are absolutely right Jed!:trophy: You DO NOT add more acid to the battery. When your battery electrolyte level gets low, it is actually the water content that gets low and not the Sulfuric Acid content. Once air hits the lead plates, that is when the acid sulfates to the plate. Just adding back the correct amount of distilled water will put you back in the game! Tell those guys at AutoZone Mike to STFU!!

* Don't mix size and types of batteries.
