i've been reading old post about the bar...and most all say it isn't necessary. i recently installed the toytec ultimate, and the pass wheel is visibly further out than the driver. i'm about to take a long trip so i want to give the 4runner an alignment after letting the suspension settle. without the bar...will they be able to align it properly? i don't mind buying the bar if need be to have it all square. i'd rather buy a $200 bar than chew up 300 a piece tires on the trip.

It is best to recenter the rear axle. I did drive for years without an extended bar or PHB drop. When I did add the pan hard bar drop, it cleared up the swimming feeling I had.
Both, the drop and extended bar, will recenter the axle.
Personally I prefer the drop. It not only recenters the axle but allows the PHB to compress in a more vertical arc. This arc keeps the axle more centered while compressing. This reduces the swimming feeling you can have (I noticed most on bumpy highway drives).
The drop does need to be welded on and should be braced.
