Parents looking at new 4Runners, but doesn't like that swirly looking interior trim

My mom and dad have been looking at the new Limited's, and my mom was starting to like the 4Runner, until she saw the trim in the Limited's

She really likes the speckled looking that I call 'stone' that I have in my 04. She hates the swirly looking stuff in the 06.

Is the trim pattern I have in mine, not offered anymore? If not, is there anyway to convert it to look more like mine?

She actually doesn't want the 4Runner now because of this.

So because she doesn't like the trim on a 40k SUV instead of inquiring about options, they should just buy an echo car?

I asked if there was any way to get the type of trim I have in my 04 for an 06. (special order, aftermarket ect), and your respose was to buy a Scion.

Maybe instead of insulting my parents (calling my mom petty), you could have been helpful, and answered the question asked, or not post at all?

Actually, the swirly looking trim is a big problem with the Limited. It's supposed to be the classy, elite trim level, but that cheesy fascia just ruins the moment.

cdoyle- I agree with your mum, I don't like the swirling pattern either and if I was putting down +$30,000 I'd want something much nicer.

I guess you might be able to custom order. Have you enquired at the dealer? The only other option I would imagine is ordering a new trim from an older model or finding someone willing to swap. Bit of a messy process for a new purchase tho.

I can't stand the new trim either, they should've just stuck with the granite trim.

You can either buy the individual pieces from 2003-2005 models and install them, but the door panels will be a big problem since I don't think the trim piece for the door panels are sold separately.

Or, you can purchase an aftermarket kit. Jason B. has a black marble kit that I think looks better, but may not be what you/your parents are looking for: Marble Trim. eBay also has a couple sellers with kits that can be ordered in different colors (wood, aluminum, chrome, carbon fiber). Check out item #280009839426.

:iagree: A 4R is not your Lexus or Mercedes Benz where you'd need some fancy fake wood decorations. It just doesn't flow well with the idea of it being an off road vehicle. If fancy wood grain is your thing, no offence. I'd just buy a MB or Lexus in that case.

I forgot it went up the center console too. I was thinking it was just near the cup holders and the doors.

I know there are some companies out there, that made 'wood' kits that went over factory stuff. Maybe one of them, make a Limited OEM look, that was intended for SR5's or Sports.

Actually I think the Limiteds are great, you get the luxury of a Lexus, and the toughness of a Toyota truck. Plus they are at least 10k less then a Lexus.

Oh I asked the dealer, and she said that the new stuff is the only option. But I'm not sure how much she looked into it.

I think my parents might wait to the 07's, maybe they'll get rid of the swirly stuff.

I agree! I just purchased my 06' Limited 2 days ago and I happen to love the way the design looks. I think it accents the "sportiness" of the 4Runner.

I think your mom would like the Lexus GX470 much better. It actually has realy wood accents and is much "dressier" than the 4Runner. Good luck and I hope your parents find the right vehicle that makes them happy. I too am picky about certain things but really like the trim on my Limited:biggrin2:

a) I think it looks good.....nicer than the trim on the 05 LTDs.....looks sportier
b) It's the only option from Toyota....there is no such thing as a "special order" from the factory for that kind of stuff. You could order the parts from Toyota and switch it all out, but those will be replacement parts (as opposed to accessories), and the cost will likely give you a stroke.
c) Even if aftermarket kits are available, 1/2 of that shit is glue-on, not replacment pieces, and even fake-er looking than the OEM trim. Would you really want to do that to a brand new $50K vehicle? I know I wouldn't.


I know this doesn't contribute heavily to the thread, but honestly, if she likes all other aspects of the vehicle, I can't believe this one thing she absolutely won't compromise on. Sounds like just searching for a reason not to buy it.....Maybe she just doesn't like the 4R overall but doesn't want to hurt your feelings

Yikes, no 4R cause of the trim. But I can understand, it's something your mom will keep for awhile and it's no small investment.

If I can choose, I'd probably would've picked the granite style trim on the '03-05 over the '06 faux blackwood just because it's different and unique. But the blackwood doesn't look that bad IMO and I haven't noticed the swirls too much until the pictures posted above. I'm considering getting the Sport package GX shift knob to compliment the rest of the trim.

As Northof49 said, either go with a different trim SR5 or Sport, replace all the panels with the '03-05 pieces or get a dash kit. A friend of a friend, sanded and painted the blackwood silver on his BMW 330ci after the first week. But I don't think there's a way to special order a Toyota with a different interior trim that was previously offered.

When you first said swirly I could not understand what they have changed. That is different, it just may take a little time to get used to it. I think Toyota wanted to make it look a little more like wood grain. Tell your Mom not to let the trim stop her from getting a great vehicle. I've seen worse patterns and worse colors. The 4Runner is worth living with that trim!

I'm probably biased because I have an '03. However, I like the '03 - '05 design much better. If I bought one I'd have to go with an after market trim kit of some kind.
