Parking Brake Adjustment

If you are asking about the '07 listed in your sig, then the parking brakes are located inside the rear disk brake rotors. These are adjusted by removing the rear wheels, then you have to line up a hole in the center of the rotor with the internal adjuster wheel and using a straight blade screwdriver rotate the adjuster wheel to tighten/loosen the parking brake shoes. It is similar to the drum brake systems on older vehicles, except that you can't make the adjustment from the backing plate, it has to be done from the front side with the wheel removed. It is always better to first make sure the rear shoes are adjusted properly, before trying to adjust the parking brake cable system.

Yep, I've adjusted the lining using the star wheel in the drum.

I wanted to tighten up some of the slack in the cable.

When you adjust the rear parking brake, turning the star adjuster UPWARD tightens the pads. DOWNWARD loosens them. Good luck!

If the rear shoes are adjusted correctly, then yes, you have to remove the rear storage compartment in the center console to access the adjustment for the cables. The shop manual suggests that there should be only 5-7 clicks at the parking brake pedal from full up to applied. Just make sure that the rear shoes do not drag when finished making the cable adjustment.

there is also a threaded section at the pedal end of the cable.

maybe that is meant to be tight there? maybe its only there for the purpose of changing the cable. im not sure.

I looked under at mine the other day, the nut was finger loose. I tightened it up a bit.

whatever you do, you don't want to put tension on the cable, there needs to be a tiny bit of slack there. you don't want the brakes dragging.

All done, took most of the slack out of the forward cable, now have 5-6 click to get solid Parking brake. Releases fine, not problems.
