Parking brake/shoe hold down pin

I made the mistake of taking the rear rotors off and pulling the shoe hold down pin/spring/retainer out of its spot. It is now rubbing the back of the hub when the hub spins. The other side is just fine.

I've never had to mess with a parking brake before and it looks/sounds like a terrible time to rebuild. It's the pin that has the "C" in bend on the back of it.

My question is since it is out of its locked position, is it broken or can it be put back in place?

Is there a way to do a temporary fix to get it out of the way of the hub at the expense of a functional parking brake until I can get the parts?

Will this require a full rebuild or is it a matter of just replacing the pin?

I jacked up one of mine when I was replacing my rear rotors. I ended up having to make a "tool" from a small piece of aluminum tubing to help get those stupid pins/springs/plates back into position.

If you didn't lose the parts you can probably get it back so long as you don't drive around for too long. So long as you can stand the noise it probably won't get much worse very quickly. Chances are one of the flat plates is only engaging one of the two tabs on the pin so the edge is popping up a bit. This also happened to me but I noticed it before reinstalling the rotor.

No way to "fix" it but to just fix it....

Thanks guys. Did some more research and found a good YouTube video. I picked up the kit and so far have the hold down pin removed. Now time to do the hard part. Fingers crossed.

It was pretty bent so I'm glad I went with the kit.

Glad you got it back together!

Now you have something to look forward too when you need to replace the parking brake shoes, except it will be both sides with a total of 4 of those bad boys!! :ybrick:
