parking break locked up - need help!

My daughter borrowed the 4runner to go babysitting and the father there moved my truck in the driveway and set the parking brake. My daughter then drove home with the parking brake on! Now my back end makes a thumping noise and generates heat like I never seen before. I dropped it off at the local garage and the mechanic said he replaced the parking brake shoes behind the rotor on both sides, as well as the rotors and pads. I drove the Runner home and set the parking brake in my driveway and the pedal went to the floor and the Runner rolled and did not set the truck. I drove it back to the mechanic and he turned the adjustment wheel on both sides and it still did not set the truck correctly and the pedal still went to the floor. He is rather stumped by this at the moment. Does anyone have any suggestions other than to get a new mechanic?

there is also a spot you could adjust under the center console but i have never seen anyone do it there

are the springs ok? did anyone adjust the shoes with the knob inside the mechanism?

Check to make sure he hooked the parking cable correctly. Maybe the connection at the shoes broke. Possibly one of the cables broke or stretched when your daughter drove it? If the cable is connected properly at the brakes and they were put back together properly then I would imagine it has something to do with the cables.

Would make sure the cables are set-up correctly on the rear axle and the clips haven't popped off. Then I would start working your way from the rear axle to front following the cables to make sure nothing else broke loose.

When he removed the rotors the second time to adjust the wheel I saw that the shoes moved a little when he depressed the pedal. That is what is stumping him since he said it only needs to move a little to work. I don't think he adjusted the wheel while it was inside- he removed the rotors first. So what your saying is that he does not have to remove the rotors to get at the adjusting wheel? I will ask him about the clips. He bought the kit so the springs are all new.

you don't need to remove the rotors to adjust the wheel, if you rotate it correctly theres a hole on the rotor that allows access to the wheel with a screwdriver, thats how youre supposed to adjust it to get the rotor off and on
