Parking lights / front side markers - swap to LED?

I was thinking of swapping out the stock bulbs for LEDS in the front side markers and was wondering if anyone had done it. I'm assuming there shouldnt be any issues [ie flashers] as these are either on or off.

Also: I'd guess you have to remove the entire headlamp unit to replace these bulbs? I tried to wiggle my hand in there but didnt get close - is there a trick?

I have never tried on this 4runner in particular, but I don't think there should be any issues putting in LED bulbs as far as flashers go. The way our manual says you should access it is through the fender liner (see attached screen shot).

HAhahahaah LMAO. yeah.. but when i stick my hands in body panels I usually end up bleeding all over the place too... not sure if he wants his amber LED's to be stained blood red! :roll:

It can be done without removing headlamp assy. As mentioned, remove some bolts for wheel well liner, pull back and really, really stretch. The front markers are mounted in a long "stalk-like" socket. That will drop down enough to be able to exchange lamps before re-installing. You might need a trip to the chiropractor after this maneuver. Might be easier if truck is on a lift, and you can stand underneath. Good luck.

Good news is that will be the last time you will have to do this.

I installed side marker led’s by removing headlights.
Shoot why i didn’t try that, I had to loose bumper anyway to remove daheadlight…..:smashputer:

It was a huge pain the ass just to swap a bulb out - but its done and looks 100% better. LEDS are way brighter than the stock bulbs....

BTW I did it thru the fender liner - it might have been only a little bit less of a hassle than pulling the entire lamp unit.

Thanks for this! I've got to replace one this weekend and I had no idea how I was going to access it!

I had to add resistors to run LED turn signals. Otherwise you get hyper flash.

Yup. I’m putting them in the front and rear so I’m adding 3 ohm resistors.

Did you put the resistors in the front or rear? I tried to put them in the front but there wasn’t enough room to work so I took the taillight assembly off and added it there.
