Parking Rant

Being against vandalism/hit-and-run "justice" isn't being high and mighty.

And thanks, I kind of liked my second post. As I start to repair/maintain my new-to-me 4Runner, I hope to be able to contribute pics/tips to the forum. First up could be the aftermarket stereo install next weekend (if that hasn't already been beat to death here?)
Oh, and until the 4Runner has performed as well (and reliably) as any of my former XJs, my baby stays in the avatar.

trust me, your 4runner already has...

jeeps are cute, barbie has one..., they are also like tampons, every pu$$y needs one

It seems as though overreaction breeds more overreaction. That's what I'm taking away from this thread anyway...

How many reliable XJs does one need? If you take this forum seriously and want to get the most out of it, I recommend leaving the Jeep vs Toyota thing at the door. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone on here that doesn't appreciate well-built Jeeps and other brand's vehicles too. Many of the people I wheel with are Jeep guys. My 4runner continues to impress them and vise-versa. Off roading is off roading.

Actually, no it hasn't. I've only had it since 2/11/2011, and put about 3000 mi on it. Plus, it's only May, and it'll still be awhile before trails here are clear of snow. I am truly excited to see how my factory installed E-locker functions, and simultaneously unsure of how the IFS will perform as compared to the SFA I'm accustomed to.

Oh, and I've never owned a "Barbie" Jeep - XJs only for me (Google Cherokee auto transmissions and 4Runner autos - surprise!). The little-Jeep guys never much cared for the Cherokees, either.

To attempt some tech - again I ask, I'm putting in a new stereo, would some pics and tips be a good thing here, or has this been done a million times on this forum?

yes aisin makes both transmissions...
search head unit install or radio or stereo install and see what you come up with, its not a hard install at all

The IFS does pretty ok. For hard core wheeling a SFA is better, not many would debate that (unless we are talking about Shannon Campbell's KOH rig). But that said, I don't think you'll be turning around on any obstacles because of your IFS (at least for a while). Your tires and lift (or lack of) will probably stop you well before your IFS will. With a rear locker, a 4runner mobs pretty darn good. You may break a CV now and then though on tougher trails so carry one with you and the proper tools and know how to change one.

As far as the stereo goes, it's pretty straight forward. On your '98, you just take the shifter console off along with the center dash panel. You have to pry the A/C button out with a knife first and then pry the A/C control panel off. Then there are a few screws behind that A/C panel and then the center pops off from there. The stereo is just held in with some screws. Get a wire harness adapter that will plug into your stock one so you don't have to splice wires.

depands on what kinda system you want man, i have 2 12s in the back and a pioneer deck, all you need is a wiring kit and a dash kit from wally world and your golden

gosh i swear there are just trolls with too much time who have no better thing to do but find an opportunity to throw up on someones thread. good gosh people. Thats all im gonna say cause i know thats all you want is to get a rise from someone. Im not gonna do it!

to the OP you have some balls hitting someone else's truck like that LOL id be too worried to damage my truck haha I'd prob wait and confront the person, although that note thing is a great idea!

I freaking hate people who dont realize they're actually driving a car, i also hate it when they think they are the only one in the parking lot and everyone else is a bunch of parking blocks where they can bang their door on when they open it, or something they can park into to support their car from rolling away. I like TURTLES!

Will this impress you?

Damn guys, didn't think this would turn into a flame war

A little more on the ordeal. I didn't run into the dodge, I was resting on my front bumper. I merely pushed it a little to see if the parking brake was on. It was not. So what happened was, some lady parked too close, put in park and let off the brake then it bumped into my truck.

Also, I posted it in this section because I was eventually going to ask about bumpers but since this thread willl probably be deleted, meh

FLAME ON!
