How do you like the 13.5? I did a set in a tundra system I built for someone else and was kind of impressed. Just figured there was too little airspace there for that sub

It does seem like it would have too little airspace. If that sounds anything like the 13w7 I have it should fill all your quality bass needs. With mine in the prowedge box I was afraid it would break the windows. Loud, crisp, and clear. Now just to maybe replace the JBL's with my JL XR-650 3way components some day too. Thing loosing the center dash speaker would be noticeable? Again, sorry if I am bringginging this a litle off topic again. Have to look into the hatch mounting idea. More wiring but with heavy gauge it should be a possibility. Thanks!

From my experience we have bigger issues like engine noise before a center speaker.

When I had my cdt 3 ways in a tacoma ext. Cab it was pure gold. Now I went and ruined it with 2 orion xtr 12" subs running on 1200rms......but that's besides the point. The stage was great in that truck and the good news is the 4runner is almost identical in the front at least. I plan on doing the 3 way up front since I have it with as little fiberglass work as possible lol. I hate fiberglass. Yucky. Anyway our engines produce a lot of noise and a full sound proofing package (cld tiles, matting, spray etc) would be necessary before I would worry about center speakers.

I'm after a great sounding system for a dd.

Thanks for the opinion on the 13.5. I am looking at the Dayton audio 12" HO. From all accounts it seems like the best buy.

It's not a thread jack. If you want it as cleanly as possible there are some tools you need to get that will help a lot!

Wire crimper
Assorted wire connectors
Shrink wrap
Heat gun
Car interior panel tools
Ratcheting screwdriver

I can't think of a thread for installation of the top of my head but here's some advice from what I know.

Be careful as you mess with the doors. They have these little push pin fasteners that are easy to miss and easy to break.

When you use the tools to pry get as close to the door pops as possible. It will help not stress the door panels and therefore less likely to break them.

Don't force stuff when you're putting it back together. If it isn't just popping back into place there's a reason.

Use an adapter when installing a head unit. It's cleaner....and easier.

If you have a microphone or something to run into the cling you will need an impact screwdriver to get the oh shit handles out. They use enough loctite in those to secure the foundation for a freaking house.

If you're doing amplifiers do not run your power wire down the same path as your rca set. It can mess up the signal in your rca. Run them down the opposite sides of the vehicle.

Find a grommet to run your amplifier power wire through on the firewall. Don't be lazy. Make sure you tape it securely and use silicone. You can fry electronics pretty easily with water from the engine bay.

Use the heat shrink when doing the wire connections. It eliminates the possibility of a short. It's easy. Just slide it on and hit it with hot air. A hair dryer might do it but I recommend a heat gun. A cheap one will work.

If you need a stereo specific forum I used to hang around diyma a lot. Lots of excellent threads and many people know what they are talking about.....but they can be jerks to guys just starting out.

Sub installation advice???

Hey y'all, I have a 2010 4runner and I have a sub i've been wanting to get installed. I just have a few important questions I need answered since i'm new to this.

-Will I need a new radio component for this or can i connect it to the stock?

-Am i going to need a specific head unit with a new radio or will a new radio fit somewhere in the stock head unit?

-Does anyone have subs installed in their 4runner thats willing to share their setup and how they did it?

-Any advice would be much appreciated!
