Partially crushed crank position sensor wire - Help

Doing timing belt job and had extreme misfortune of crushing the wire for the crank position sensor under the corner of the water pump. Only realized it when I could not install the upper driver side timing belt cover on my 03 4runner limited w/ v8 motor. Anyway, it looks like the wires were not damaged, but they are encased in a copper foil which I assume is to reject spurious electrical noise from corrupting the signals. See attached pic. The foil was destroyed over a portion of the wire. My Q is can I just run w/o the foil over that 1/2 inch section, do I need to cover it with foil before reassembly (tin foil ok?), or am I going to have to replace the whole wire which is integral to a big wiring harness (yikes!)? Anybody have experience or knowledge? It seems easiest to fix now before I put it all together.

Thanks

Thanks guys. I came pretty unglued when I discovered my error, because of the labor and the potential added work/cost.
