So here are the parts I used for my install of my Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD Head Unit in my 2004 Toyota 4Runner SportEdition (Stock, non-Nav). I had to do a lot of research to find all of this information and I hope that if anything it can help someone out since it took me quite some time to compile a lot of this information from searching all over this website and others.
First off, I went to Best Buy to see what an installed unit would cost, after parts and labor it was north of $700 for the same set-up, installed myself for just barely over $300.
Parts list -
-Pioneer AVH-P2300DVD (Amazon)
-Metra 95-8202 Toyota DDIN Multi Dash Kit (Amazon)
*Best Buy was looking for the 8210, which thankfully in doing research I found out WILL NOT FIT. The 8202 fits like a gem!
-SCOSCHE TA02B Wiring Harness for 1987 and up Toyota (Amazon)
-Metra AXXESS ASWC Universal Wheel Control Interface (Amazon)
-Brake Bypass (eBay)
With a little research, for those of you who have the JBL Systems, you will need this item as well.
-Toyota TURN-ON Adapter TYTO-01
For wiring Diagrams I used The Install Doctor It was spot on in exception of the Orange Wire (Which indicates "DO NOT USE"), I hooked up to Orange/White "Illumination" on the Pioneer Harness.
I then used the Castulucci Guide to take apart the dash, worked like a dream.
Most importantly came the most frustrating part of the install, getting the AXXESS ASWC Interface to work. So here are the most important pieces of information to have.
First, pay attention to the install guide (Just for example, this was for my 2004):
8215 Shell Wiring Guide: The guide is actually opposite of what it needs to be. Instead of being from Left to Right, it actually goes Right to Left.
6 = White and Red (Ground)
7 = Violet and White (Control)
8 = Yellow and Black (Control)
Second, and most important for this to work: When you ground White/Red (Pin 6), make sure that you ground it with the same ground wire that you spliced into from the AFTERMARKET SIDE of the wiring Harness. I made the mistake of splicing into the grounding wire from the 4Runner side BEFORE the clip. Finally after some research, I was able to figure out where I made my mistake. I fixed it and reset the unit and it worked flawlessly.
To clarify the step above: If you install the Brake Bypass like I did, you will actually have a 3-way splice BEFORE the solder between the Headunit and OEM Wiring Harness. One for the ground for the AXXESS, one for the ground for the Steering Control and one for the Brake Bypass.
Third, the rest of the instructions for the AXXESS AWSC were easy to follow in the sense that Violet/White (Pin 7) matched up with the Green/Orange. And the Yellow/Black (Pin 8) matched up with the Black/Green.
If you have an Eclipse or Kenwood unit there are a couple of other wires that you will need to connect. But it's all very self-explanitory in the Install Guide.
For the Brake Bypass install, this was INCREDIBLY simple.
