Re: Can you explain this?

Steve,

I'm a 4Runner owner and lover. I'm also a military memeber stationed overseas. You might be interested in my story (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4455) since one of your sales representatives did what I consider to be the exact opposite of what you claimed at the start of this thread

Brick,

I was just informed today that this was posted about partznet.com. I would say at the least i'm very upset at the whole situation. Whatever was said had nothing to do with the Troops oversea or anywhere in the USA. The only thing I can tell you is that we unfortunately do not ship overseas to any of our customers. We ship to the United States and Canaga only, that is our Company Policy. We have had problems in the past sending overseas either with credit card info or parts never getting to it's destination. I honestly don't know what was said by my counterperson, but i wish that you would have tried to talk to me about this, i maybe could have explain or directed you in the right direction. Again, i'm sorry you feel this way and I do Apologize for any inconveince that was caused by our company policies. We truely appreciate and support the troops here and a far.

Thank you
Steve Kaufmann
Parts Manager

I'll chime in now that Steve has responded. If you follow the link in Br1ck's post above it says:
..but because I'm in the military stationed overseas, they will not ship the item to me.
IMO this has nothing to do with being in the military - it should have said "...but because I'm overseas, they will not ship the item to me." Not shipping overseas is a fairly common policy among internet parts dealers - I know for sure that Hondacuraworld.com who sponsors a couple of my other sites has the same policy of not shipping overseas. The policy has absolutely nothing to do with supporting the troops.

I fail to understand how a counterperson's refusing to bend a "no shipping overseas" policy to deliver a hitch to a guy stationed in Germany for his '04 Limited V8 4Runner would lead anyone to add "partznet doesn't support the troops" to their sig line :thumbdwn:

Supporting the troops IMO has to do with displaying our flag with pride, tying yellow ribbons for those missing, kids sending letters of encouragement, donating things our troops need in the battle field like bottled water, etc., getting our politicians to provide them with the resources and equipment they need to protect themselves and kick the butts of the folks who want to fly jets into our cities, and welcoming them home with open arms :thumb:

People tend to make a lot of drast remarks; hell I have done many times in my life. Also, people believe what they want to believe, see things how they want to see them, and interpret actions to how they see it. With that said, hypothetically if Partznet did ship parts overseas, how does this support troops? I am sure the Army, Marines, Navy, and the Airforce have their suppliers for parts for anything they need. No offence to Partznet, but I doubt they would be going to them for anything war related.

Joke if you wish, but that is/was not my intent.

So, let me clear up a few things:

Steve-

I'm happy to see you responded. You need to know that I asked to speak to you and your salesman refused to transfer me to you. He stated that you were "too busy" and that it didn't matter because you were not going to change "company policy" just because I was in the military. I followed that up with an email to Partznet explaining my dissatisfaction with the salesman and I've yet to receive and email back. My hope was that you would read this, contact me and maybe even acknowledge that shipping to an APO is not the same as shipping overseas.

Gator et al-

BECAUSE I'm in the military overseas I have the benefit of using the US Postal Service as my primary means of shipping goods. In fact the USPS guidelines that apply to you are no different than the ones that apply to me. So, ask yourself, would PARTZNET send you an item via USPS...the ultimate answer may be no due to possible business deals with FEDEX or UPS, but the possibility exists. On the other hand, I do not have those options (at least not without paying additional import fees even though I'm a US citizen). My statement, while you may not like it, is true. By not shipping to APOs, Partznet can not support any overseas military member's parts needs. To clarify, I'll even update my sig to state that more explicitly.

You may not know this, but shipping to an APO is not the same as shipping overseas. Shipping to an APO means the goods go to either New York City or San Francisco. The rest is handled by the military mail system. Additionally, the shipping rates are the same as the ones you'd receive. It is not fair or accurate to group shipping to and APO and shipping to and overseas country as the same thing. They are not the same. Now you couple these facts with the notion that all USPS insurance and customer service handling processes are the same and you see that not shipping to a military member overseas is a disservice to us. We do not have the ability to go to our local Wal-Mart or Autozone and get what we need. My specific case delt with a trailer hitch that Toyota themselves were less than supportive with. I must say though, that Deland Toyota of Florida did in fact ship me the hitch assembly (through US Priority Mail) and it arrived in only 4 days.

Now, why couldn't Partznet done this? I can't answer that, but in my military environment, hiding behind "Company Policy" just doesn't cut it. If you are able to help, you help...bottom line. The focus is on our teammates and the good of what we do, not the pain or inconvenience it may cause ourselves.

I agree ribbons and flags are nice, but those things only seemed to flurish after 9/11...where were they prior to that? Supporting the troops, to me as a troop, is an agreement between those of us that serve and those of you that don't. And, here is how it breaks down: I don't ask unless I absolutetly need assistance, and if you can help me you try your best to do so. Air conditioners sent to Iraq is a perfect example...and they didn't even ask for them!

My beef with Partznet is not centered on their unwillingness to send me a part (even though at the time they were the only would that could) but the fact is the individual on the phone (I really wish I could remember his name) displayed such a dismissive tone with me that I resented helping protect his feedoms. I can't explain it, but I've not been that pissed in quite a while.

I love my career choice and I wouldn't have it any other way, but until you put yourselves in my shoes or the shoes of my bretheren I'll have to brush aside your "failure to understand" and agree...you may never understand.

That said Gator, it sounds like you support us, and for that I thank you.

PARTZNET.COM DOESN'T SUPPORT THE TROOPS OVERSEAS!!!!

Br1ck, if I felt for one second that partznet didn't support our troops you wouldn't see their banner ad at the top of this site. We'll have to agree to disagree because as you can see it's still there.

Out of curiosity I just tired calling TireRack and asked if they would send stuff to a friend statiioned in Germany with an APO address and the guy said they do it all the time and in fact he was just getting ready to send over a 19" wheel / tire package.
Perhaps your info above will convince partznet to change their policy :dunno:

Thanks for your service to our country and I hope you return safely.

Gator,

Agreed. I just hope Steve catches that guy (I spoke to) on the phone with somebody else, taking in the manner he did with me, and fires him.

By the way, thanks for the best wishes (I'm scheduled to return next summer after one more deployment to the sandbox) and I love this forum!

Steve,

Will you be carrying any parts for older Runners? Everything I see there is for 99 and newer. I have a '93 and I'm looking for odd's and ends and I'm having some problems finding anything besides tings like plugs, wires, etc.

Would like some tube running boards and other stuff.

Thanks

Since I've been in the military and overseas for almost 6 yrs now, 3 in Japan and 3 in Italy, I've always used Lou Fusz Toyota in St. Louis. They've been very good about sending my parts to me at my APO addresses.
I agree Br1ck and I feel your pain. It's frustrating when you find the part you need only to discover the company won't ship to APOs because it's against their policy. I've actually explained my situation to some companies and they've gone against "Company Policy" and went out of their way to ship the items to me. Fortunately, there are some customer-oriented companies out there.
Take care and Ciao,

Br1ck: I use Deland Toyota for service, their dept is great. The first day I brought my 4Runner home the gauge cluster malfunctioned. I was afraid to bring into Deland Toyota because I bought the car in Orlando. The service manager felt So bad about the trouble I had ( it took them a week to order and new one from Japan and install) that he gave me some free accessories just to keep me happy; they also honored partznets' price on the homelink system. I will continue to use them as long as I own my 4Runner and hopefully next time I buy they will do right on the price.
