Passenger Front Side Lights All Went Out

I have an 05 4Runner and about a week ago my passenger side turn signal started working only intermittently, after about 3 days it finally quit. Directly after that my niece told me that my headlight on the passenger side was out, i checked it and it was working fine. The next day it was completely out. I went to change the turn signal bulb but it didn't work. The socket looks burnt. I changed the headlight and it works just fine now, the socket for that looks to be in good shape. As I was checking to make sure the new headlight matched the old headlight I noticed that now my passenger side fog light is not working!!! VERY FRUSTRATING especially since I have a 700 mile road trip coming help. Thought, suggestions advice??

@Ginetta, I had this same problem with my '05. I am assuming that your '05 has the daytime running lights, which double as your turn signals. The sockets are running every minute that your vehicle is running and thus, they are hot an awful lot and life is reduced. When I went to the dealer, they told me that this was common with the '05 daytime running lights due to the reasons that I just mentioned. I had to purchase two new sockets and splice them into the harness'. I then began using LED bulbs instead as they use less power and generate very little heat. Hope that helps!

makes sense that they the turn signal bulbs/sockets would burn out more frequently BUT I'm wondering if there is a more serious underlying issue given that my headlight and my fog light all went out within 5 days or so of each other and all on the same side...

@Ginetta, yes, that is odd, but if I am not mistaken your turn signals are on a completely different circuit and fuse/relay, then your headlights and thus, are in no way connected except MAYBE through the steering column controls. However, you mentioned in your original post, that you changed out the headlight bulb and all is well. I think that rules out any issue with the steering column controls. Probably just a coincidence. Regardless, you're going to have to change out the sockets anyway. It's an inexpensive fix and the LED bulbs (assuming that's the route you are going to take) and not expensive either. Change them all out and if there are any other problems, PM me.

I agree with preacher, he definitely knows his stuff. When switching to LED you might get a "turbo" blink as the LED does not draw as much making the system think the bulb has burnt out. I found a post on here somewhere that shows you how to stop that by filing down a wire in the relay box. Worked well for me when I changed my '04s lights to the small blinkers in the housings.

Well Gentlemen now my headlight is back out again!!! :frusty: Still no running light/blinker or fog light! I have called around and cannot find a replacement socket for the turn signal except at the deal -- $75. Guess I'm going to have to suck it up and get it. Im not gong to switch anything over to the LED's, I plan on purchasing a new 4Runner next summer and I'm finding that now I need to replace the front CV Axles, struts, shocks and brakes. That's a vehicle with 200k miles for ya though I guess.

My thought is that if they are related they would work/not work at the same times.
My local dealer said you can buy the socket but not the connector. I don't believe that because mine has two different turn signal/sell sockets and one was like you said, spliced in. Would love to know the part number of the socket and connector you spliced in.
