Passenger Seat Occupancy Sensor Error

My passenger seat always thinks it has a passenger in it now. So the flashing light and ding goes off all the time unless I reach over and pull the seatbelt and buckle it. Anyone have this issue and an easy fix? If not I'm still in the bumper to bumper period of the warranty. Just hoping to skip a trip to the dealer.

this doesn't help the matter at hand, but i always have to clip my passenger belt in, that damn thing flaps and rattles like crazy with the windows down!

Subscribed, having same issue, but intermittant. My extended wty just lapsed. :(

It's gotta be the sensor in the seat doesn't it? Smacking the seat nice and hard fixes mine for a while.

LOL!

I know what you mean though and it is very annoying!

I always leave it buckled in anyway. I often set things on it, so I do not want it to think someone is sitting there.

At that, I am to the dealer tomorrow, the airbag sensor indicates off even when a passenger is sitting there.

Take it to the dealership. My wife would sit in the front seat (110 lbs) and the passenger airbag would be off. It'll take them 30 mins to recalibrate the weight sensor. Dealer says this has been happening on some vehicles. Hope this helps. Mine is a 2015 4R

Depending on your mileage I'd suggest taking it to the dealer. This sounds like a safety equipment issue and those typically extend far past the 36k bumper to bumper.

Make sure there is nothing under the seat. I had a water bottle wedge under a seat that caused the sensor to go off

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check under the seat. I can't get it to turn off by smacking it. Tried all the usual stuff. If not I guess it's going to need to get a dealer reset.

You don't happen to leave your phone on your passenger seat while it's charging, do you? My FR-S would show the passenger side airbag active when I left my phone laying in the seat.

Went to the dealer today, after a lovely three hour wait, they said they could not find anything wrong with it, and it works just fine, they even got a small girl who works there to sit in it and it worked.

SO maybe it is one of those intermittent things, so I will video it next time just to show I am not crazy.

I asked about recalibration and they said it cannot be done; after three hours of waiting, I was not in the mood to debate with them.

My Cadillac ATS did this all the time, took me over a year to realize it.

So which is it? Can it be calibrated or not? BlackWorksInc , do you know?

I've never heard of this.

Bringing this old thread back up. Did any of you figure out what was going on with the sensor. Mines been acting up for the past couple of days.
