All you have to do to prevent the airbag from going off is disconnect the battery. Just in case you don't realize it, the piece you're talking about replacing is the actual airbag. It won't be cheap.
I'm assuming it's actually scuffed, and not just dirty (like it looks in the pictures) if it's just dirty, then Simple Green or GooGone will clean that right up.
I tried goo gone initially. It started to fade (color) the small area I tested it on. Today I tried dish detergent in water and applied with a sponge. This time the area didn't fade but made the area that had the scuff/dark mark much larger and prominent. :cry2:
Never seen moon mist interior paint, but if you find it then key us know. The 96-98 piece seems to be molded in colored plastic while the 99+ piece is molded black and then painted.
Trying to revive this thread. Anyone have any advice on spray paint or replacement airbag covers ? Similar situation on my runner, paint faded off when was trying to remove adhesive
If you have an ABS store near you(auto body specialties) you can take an armrest or similar item of the same color to them and they will match the color and put it in a rattle can.
