Passing california emissions test

No, I have not lived in California long. I have been living as an expat, in The Philippines for the last 20 years, and I just returned to the U.S.
I gather people are tired of me asking about CA smog test. :sorry: It won't happen again.

I was kind of curious to see what a gallon of paint thinner would do to a 5vz. Assuming you meant “mineral spirits” and not acetone or xylene or one of the other common solvents.
I’m kind of thinking a gallon of mineral spirits might not be that big of a deal. It shouldn’t melt any of the viton and plastics used in the system. Might cause detonation though, maybe clean the injectors.
These rigs only hold 16 gallons or so. 15:1 ratio seems rather strong.
Could be ho hum, or maybe be one of those “hold my beer” kind of events.

4oz of acetone at fillup doesn’t hurt anything.

Yes. If it's stock it'll be branded. I just replaced my cat and on the bottom it's etched with the CARB executive order D-193-100 showing this model of cat is allowed for my vehicle in the state of CA.
Basically the visual inspection is just that, they look for any modified or aftermarket parts on your engine that affect emissions (intake, exhaust and vacuum routing). If there is an there's no CARB sticker they fail you. Just like that.

And there's some of us that pass with "illegal" parts and pass just fine... hehe
I used to live in southern CA and had the exact same worries as you when I moved there. In the end everything worked out. As long as it doesn't have a check engine light on, and no emissions equipment has been intentionally removed, you should be fine. If you are still worried about where to go, read a few google reviews to get a feel for how people feel about the place. If you are in San Diego, (I see your profile said Mexico) PM me and I will recommend a couple places that were fair and not out to get you when I lived there a few years back. Basically you are generally safe with a test only station that isn't too shiny/fancy with a lot of traffic.

I missed where you said if the 4Runner is Cal or 49 state, smog-wise?
If you have been mostly driving short trips in the weeks prior to the smog test, go for a nice, hot highway-speed drive before testing. I usually go about 50 miles up the interstate, turn around, and come back to smog shop.

Pardon for my ignorance , but what is a "cel".
The 4 runner appears to be in top shape. Runs like a scalded cat. :clap2:
PS: When I replaced the battery, I erased the computer info. I know I must re-set the computer but I don't know exactly how to do that. I looked all over the internet and I see everything from 5 mins at 60 miles/hour without touching the brake. Some posters on other youtube videos claim that it takes several hundred mile of hwy and city driving to re-set the computer.
DOES ANYONE KNOW FOR CERTAIN EXACTLY WHAT IT TAKES TO RESET THE COMPUTER ????
I might get passed the smog test, with one, possibly two "incompletes" on the test device. But certainly not more than that.

It is a California smog test. And, yes, I plan on running the 4 runner at hwy speeds for an hour just before the test to heat the hell out of the "cat'.
