Passive Throttle Body clean?

My mechanic suggested cleaning the throttle body without removing it by spraying throttle body cleaner into it while the truck was running but cold.

He did warn about burning up the catalytic converter and advised very little cleaner be used and only while the truck was cold (right after first startup)

I asked if Seafoam would be better and he though it might.

Just wanted to breeze that past the membership here to see if this is a thing or just his thing.

SMA Has used Seafoam to clean throttle bodies.

I Do suggest taking it off though. Doesn't look to be to hard on our models if you are savey.

I wouldn't do it that way. 1: your engine isn't designed to burn cleaners and anything besides gasoline, really. 2: to much potential for foreign objects (dust, dirt, rags, tools, hardware) to get ingested.

If your TB is dirty, once you get the intake off, it isn't much more work to just remove the TB and clean it off the truck. Carb cleaner works fine for that. Be sure the metal gasket goes back on clocked in the correct position though.

I clearly don't know your mechanic, but that advice makes him sound lazy.
