Yeah I saw that, but my question is when should I get a new one and how can I tell when it's going out? Pretty much should have just asked that haha.

It's just a ball in a tube. As long as the ball moves back and forth freely, it's good. I use a cheap one from NAPA and change it every 30k when I do my plugs. 13 years and 160k and never an issue. They could probably go 60k but it's so easy to change with the plugs.

there are few things to look for with relation to a PCV, you want to check the grommet it sits in. if its hard and cracking, its needs to be changed and probably along with the PCV. you want to ensure a good seal so that oil pressure remains good and consistent.

To test the actual PCV, you can pop it out and try to blow through it. you might get a little taste of oil (i speak from experience) but it should only blow one way and not the other.
It needs to blow from valve cover to intake, not the other way around. If it does, change it.
If its hard to blow from valve cover to intake, change it.

If its passes the above test, you are good.
PCV can affect gas mileage and oil pressure.
You want a good functioning PCV so that the vapor generated internally can be used and combusted back through the top of the intake.

Obviously another way to check a bad pcv, is when you clean your MAF and see inside your intake manifold has spots of oil and such then your pcv is not doing its job to only get vapor through and not oil.

BUT also understand its not perfect, a fully functioning PCV can and still transfer bits of oil to the intake manifold which is okay as long as its not a large amount. After a while, all the vapor can carry small amounts of oil and it can accumulate over time.

I think i covered all the bases, so change it if you need to and if i remember correctly its only like a 10$ part.

$6 for the PCV and $4 for the grommet at my local dealer.

That said, since the OP wants a Supercharger, he better get the TRD PCV valve :).

Nice sarcasm haha, the grommet is bad and the valve is...well I will replace both of em. It's that time. Is throttle response effected by this?

The throttle? Nope. Check your cables and tighten them up (use the search engine on how to do such).

Yes, it is sarcasm. There is a guy in my office who just bought an 2011 FJ. Due to his big Xmas check coming to him, he is hunting down everything that is TRD applicable for his rig, including the Supercharger. I am still confident I can convince him that there are TRD horns available to be bought before 5pm.

Haha, that is great, make sure you get him to get a TRD exhaust bearing.

Did you succeed? You should tell him you have an inside connection to TRD and can get him custom TRD stuff, then just get a TRD paint stencil and make your self some folding money...

No luck, his ball and chain called at 4:45, and he split.

He is a nice guy, good at his job and deserves the money he makes ($120k+) but having a couple of silver spoons in his mouth from birth, the FJ is a play toy for him (he has five cars just for himself) with it being the second Toyo he has owned (drives a 2012 LC as a DD). Think of the suits that hover around the John Hancock Tower, and he could easily be one of them.

I am rooting for him to buy as much TRD as he can, including the elusive TRD PCV valve, because he will unload within three years and mostly likely sell it for less than Edmunds value so I would like to think I could pick it up loaded with TRD goodies. It is a little nefarious on my part no doubt.

tell him to search for high performance TRD blinker fluid... haha on another note be careful when removing old PCV grommet... Older grommets tend to become hard like plastic over time, and can break when you try to remove them...you DO NOT WANT small plastic pieces floating around your valve cover. Also be careful if you install a Napa PCV valve, apply a very small amount of petroleum jelly on the valve when reinstalling back into new grommet..if you apply too much pressure you can break the valve easily.
