Peak back-up camera install

I want to install the dislplay unit (3.5 inch) in the drop down compartment in the head liner and hard wire it. I can drop it down when I need it and it would be easy to conceal. There is power up there, sunroof and lights. How do I get in there, and will this work?

removing the overhead console

To remove the overhead console on a 4th gen, work your fingers under the front edge (near the windshield) and give it a firm tug downwards. Clips hold the console in place on the front with a claw holding the back. If you're running wires up there (e.g., the video feed), you'll probably want to run them down the A-pillar, behind the kick panel and under the door sill to avoid any potential interference with the sun roof mechanism.

One alternative to consider is putting the monitor in your sun visor; it's definitely thick enough to hold an LCD screen. The non-lighted visosr are easier to mod than the lighted version of the visor.

Thanks for the help, didn't want to start pulling things apart without a clue. The system I have is wireless so all I need for the display is power. I was hoping I could tap in up there instead of running down to the lighter plug. Any idea?

I don't recommend wireless backup camera. I never had good luck with it. Lots of static/snow on display. If you have to run wire to get it work. I would go with the fully wire one. Just my previous experiences with wireless one. It is not that hard to run the wire-backup camera system

Power overhead

I think the power to the map light circuit is always hot, even with the key removed. You probably want to only make the video camera active only in certain cases, like when the accessory switch is on or when in reverse. If that's the case, you'll end up tapping power from elsewhere. Removing the A-pillar molding isn't too hard. JA's site has been a big help with electrical stuff:
