Pedal commander vs Sprint booster?

I've have numerous companies contact me from china that have imitation devices. Yes, they ALREADY exist. They do not work the same unfortunately. I also will not put my name on a product with no warranty and no USA based operations! This is a huge huge liability when you're dealing with something electronic that controls your gas pedal and electronics. They are practically begging me to carry the part, but I told them I can't. There is no support and it's a big risk.

That video you linked is by a dude who works for Sprint Booster. The info he is telling might have a slight bias.

Just ordered the Booster. After copious amounts of research I think it’s superior to the PC. Less complicated. KISS mentality just like the 5th gen 4runner!!

Glad to help ya out. Probably one of the biggest differences this side of a supercharger, but that's $5,000, lol. And I have many saying there are getting better gas mileage with this!

Reverse

This may be a silly question, but how do either of these boosters effect going in reverse? It seems like these devices may be a little too “punchy” for going backwards. Do you turn them off? Is it manageable? There’s no effect?

Actually not a silly question, just never had anyone ask it. It will just make the truck feel like any other car/truck felt made before 2003. The same feeling. Any car before 2003 had a metal cable on the gas pedal going to the throttle body, which was more direct feeling.

Have had mine about a month now and you'll wonder why you didn't get one of these sooner! Got mine set to "Green 7". Reverse is not a problem as you will get used to the improved pedal response rather quickly.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, green 7 seems to be the favorite setting for the 5th gen.

I got the Pedal Commander (used from a member on here) and it was a great addition to the car. I'll go as far as to say it's basically mandatory. I picked up my '16 Trail Premium a couple of months ago and was actually having borderline buyer's remorse because of the horrible throttle response. Completely fixed by the Pedal Commander!

After 5 months of use on my 2019 it gave engine sign.. .saying poor communication in the throttle response system. contacted PC tech support and found that the connector at the pedal needs to be secured properly so that it doesn't get loose. from what i can see the socket is tight enough to not get loose but who knows. had to do reset code and reconnect PC while the car was off. working ok for now but when it happened the 4R stopped doing more than 90km speed while i was on a highway... was scary. not sure if sprint booster acts like this on/off.

This is the risk we take by using these. I would expect this could happen to any of these throttle body controllers. PC/Injen/Sprint/etc.

I first had a pedal commander on my 5th gen and I returned it. If you read and research more it can cause issues with Bluetooth radio in the 5th gen plus you have to find a place to hide the dumb Bluetooth brain box. There's nothing to hide on the Sprint Booster. I will say since I had BOTH - the pedal commander is not as quick. I've learned my lesson. You couldn't pay me to take these outta my trucks.

I had a PC on my 4th gen and loved it. Love being able to make adjustments via the phone app. Just put one on my '20 5th gen and it's the same great stuff. If you like the SB, get that one. Plenty of options for everyone.

I just installed the Pedal Commander over the weekend and Im loving it.. I have it on Sport +1 and it feels like it should've came this was from Toyota.. Ive also noticed that the 5th to 3rd shift while in Cruise doesn't seem to happen quite as often as before..

Correct! I've had some issues with the other products and bluetooth, so this is why I only like selling the Sprint Booster. I've never had a return on a Sprint Booster. Can't wait to see your video.

Picked up a PC for under $200 during BF figuring it was getting returned anyway. Now, probably couldn't pay me enough to remove it at this point. I've got it set to Sport-0 and feels just right to me. Without it, it's almost like driving a bus.

I was in the camp of thinking the PC or SB was a gimmick but it really improves the experience in the Runner. Won't go as far as saying it has eliminated the need for a SC but it's much more tolerable.

My '20 feels a little sluggish, but not not overly so. I test drove some '19 before purchasing '20 and '19 felt slower then '20.
Is there a possibility that Toyota improved the throttle response on the '20?

Nope, not in your head all 5th gens are like this and they feel like a pig, slow reaction time. This will fix it 100% and you'll say holy crap after you try it.

Big thanks to Jason, arrived super quick. Got it installed yesterday but didn't get a chance to really drive it until today running a bunch of errands. Started out on the Sport modes and could tell a difference right away, into Race modes even more. There is enough adjustment between to find something that suits you.

I found that the high end of the sport mode seemed good, coming home I went to Race 9 but even the slightest pedal pressure wanted to downshift.

I would describe the feel of the unit as not so much as quickening the TB opening but almost "pre-loading" the pedal. Before it felt like I was pushing and pushing, now I it actually feels responsive.
