Pedal issue/engine roar?

I took my Limited over to Snowshoe Mountain in West VA over the weekend. The drive is up and downhill through some pretty steep "mountains". I noticed 2-3 times on the drive that at certain times when I'm going uphill the engine would roar pretty loud and stay loud. I took my foot off the gas when this happened twice and noticed that the RPMs stayed at 3000 going uphill. It wasn't until I hit the gas again and released that the RPMs dropped and my speed started to decline along with the engine roar stopping.

No I didn't have cruise control on. Any ideas what might cause this? Should I take it in to the dealer?

If you took your foot off the gas and it felt like the engine was still receiving acceleration input without cruise control on or with your foot off the pedal, I would take it to a dealer. Now if you are talking about going downhill, the transmission will downshift causing RPMs to increase (engine braking) without having your foot on the pedal (you mentioned this happening going uphill though).

The engine roaring was most likely just caused by the truck downshifting into third, probably rpms stayed at 3k briefly because it had just downshifted.
