Pelfreybilt Vs Demello VS Shrockworks

I'm soon to be in the market for a new front bumper and I've narrowed it down to these three.

Lets start off with the Pelfreybilt bumper

Great looking bumper and the company has a very good reputation with the Tacoma community. I really like the cutout in front for a 20" SR LED light bar. I'm looking at getting the center hoop with supports along with their powdercoating. Bumper weighs 115lbs and uses 1/4" steel skin as the plate. One slightly big downside is that the bumper does stick out quite a bit on the sides. - $1310 as configured


Next is the Demello bumper

I like this bumper except for the DO cutout in the front. It's possible to order this without the cutout but it would cost MORE. Probably because they'd likely don't have ones without the cutout on hand to weld together. This bumper also uses 1/8" steel skin. Nice weight savings but I'm not sure how well this would hold up in an accident or on the trail. Makes me a bit wary tbh. Not sure how much this one weighs, maybe someone could chime in on that. $1375 as configured with the textured powdercoat.


Lastly we have the Shrockworks bumper.

This bumper is HUGE. This one is last on my list since Shrockworks has a reputation for some pretty bad lead times and they aren't local for easy pickup. On the bright side, there is no tax so it kind of negates the shipping costs. This one weighs 146lbs and uses 3/16" steel skin. The size of the bumper is probably where the extra ~30lbs of weight comes from. - $1491 shipped


I'm leaning towards the Pelfreybilt one right now but do you have any input to sway my decision otherwise? Do you currently have one of these bumpers and would like to chime in with your thoughts and reviews.

The CBI bumper is also in consideration.

I vote DO.

I ordered mine without powered coating and I cut the do logo out. Just matched the angled cuts of the two holes on either side of it.

It's at the powder coaters right now getting a gloss black.
 
I wouldn't worry about the Demello only being 1/8" either. I wish I had some internal structure pics of it on my phone.

The winch plate and main structure, gussets, and backbone are all 1/4".
 
I've been shopping for a bumper too. You should get the redesigned relentless fab bumper so I can see what it looks like!:hungry:

I was more concerned with exterior damage if I were to get into an accident than interior structural support with winches.
 
Do some reading. I went through the same decision. Ended up SW and looooove it.

Demellos exposes the washer fluid bottle. Pelterty didn't want to do a body lift bracket. SW covered both, albeit the wait time.............................

You could also check out CBI Offroad for an option

I don't think I plan on doing a body lift so that's out of the question. The washer fluid bottle could also be relocated with the '12+ tacoma relocate. How's your mpg with 150lbs of metal on the front end since we both have the v8?



And I'm also considering CBI as well.

thats why you get the diy kit. i was just reminded this kit exists and i might call him tomorrow to see if the diy includes the new center section or not. even though i just told inv4drzm i was gonna do a hybrid. but ill probably be having that fabricator do a rear for me so i can actually carry a spare again, cut the rear cross member out and push everything in to get a better departure.

That's also an option but how much would that even cost on average?

for me free. i was just gonna borrow one of the 20 odd welders from the office and do it either in the shop or in my driveway cause fuq the HOA :hat:

My 4R is getting closer and closer to being your 4R's twin! :biggrin1:

I've though about getting their DIY kit with only the center section and welding on some DOM tubing for the wings as a hybrid style. The only thing I don't like about their bumper is how the wings stick out where the hoops mount on the end. I think.

im stuck between building it plate style of making it hybrid. its gonna cost me the same either way. plus i gotta save enough money up to get the rear done and a regear...... i should start selling drugs

Here's a pelfreybilt with full hoops.
I love it, they said they would've done something for the body lift.
But I forgot to mention it to them, so that's on me.
Only little gripe I have, that's starting to fade more and more, is the cut out is a round one and really quite small.
I have rigid cubes and they have to be set begin the cut out.
But other than that, I love it!
