Should JoePa been fired? Maybe. Apparently he knew of the abuse and did his "legal" obligation and told university authorities. They did nothing (which is why even the University President is out of a job tonight). Joe should have called the police and followed up on it. He knew and worked with Sandusky, so you can't help but feel that perhaps he covered sh*t up. I don't know. Whatever, there are kids (so far 8 victims) who's lives are ruined forever. Man, you can bet your bottom dollar that PSU is going to get sued EPICALLY.
JoePa: What a brilliant career!!!! Doubt anyone will equal that, but what a shame it all had to end like this. Quite sad actually.
My opinion: JoePa not only to blame, the State College DA had their sights on Sandusky years ago and did nothing. I personally think MORE blame should be assigned to the higher ups at PSU and the DA. JoePa's mistake was not putting an end to it. Very sad situation in State College now. Apparently the students are rioting downtown. I want to know why they don't take that riot to the offenders house!

EDIT: JoePA was the HEAD coach, so in a sense, the buck stops with him. This is why I say "maybe the firing was justified". I think Joe should've gotten punished (eventually he would/will get sued by the victims) by the school board, but getting fired I think was extreme.

Hell yes! He should have been fired on Monday. He is an accessory to child rape. He knew it was going on and continued to allow that child rapest to have keys and access to the facilities to continue his disgusting actions. I would go as far to say he should be brought up on charges.

Dunno about fired, but I've lost all respect for the man. His "legal obligation" is crap.
For the life of me, I can't understand PSU deciding to fire the head coach, who HEARD about the rape, then promoting the guy who WITNESSED it with own eyes to be head coach today. They've backed off from that plan and put McQueary (the eyewitness) on leave. But it boggles my mind that they originally decided to fire JoePa, but let McQueary lead the team onto the field today. Very sad. Pathetic behavior all around.

McQrueary wasn't promoted, nor was he at the game.
Hearing, seeing, knowing...It doesn't matter, all of them failed to do the right thing, whether legally or morally. They had a duty to act, and chose not to, for whatever reason. Any and all involved should be gone. The university did the right thing. Clean house and start over.
I am more concerned with the way these students are acting. In my book, Penn State has officially been demoted to a school no one wants to attend because it is full of brainless, incompetent, pointless, idiotic morons that clearly don't know left from right. Congratulations, you are now just as stupid as the Occupy apes.

What I think is unfortunate is the fact that Paterno's name will be forever linked to Sandusky's crimes. I'm not saying he should have or shouldn't have done more, but how many of us could name the former AD or President? Those guys LIED about it to a grand jury. Penn State is smart. They want to move on as fast as possible. What do you do? You put the blame on those most visible.
What I don't get is WHY you would know what he did (Penn State) and then act like nothing was wrong? To me their actions went so far above an out of sight out of mind mentality because they did recognize something wrong was happening, but just chose to say, "we just don't want it happening on campus".

Joe Pa is a victim of his age and era he grew up in but that's not to says he should be excused and everybody associated with this has to go if Penn State hopes to get past this. They've already lost alot of recruits with this scandal and it will cost the university millions. It had to happen.
People even just 30 years ago didn't question very often what went on with other people's business even if they knew something was wrong and this included ERs with abuse victims coming in and schools even turned a blind eye to abuses on young children. It was the era of mind your own business but as I was growing up in the '80s we slowly developed a better culture that pushes witnesses and victims to speak out and for people to listen.

To me it's one thing to not question what is going on and another to determine there is something going on, but to just push it away from your institution. When they heard of what he did, they told him that he was no longer allowed to bring kids onto campus. Huh? These are ALL people who have children themselves or nieces/nephews. How could you possibly justify that solution?
