People that are selling 4th gens and getting 5th gens, please state your reasons

I was hesitant to get a 4th gen because the 3rd Gen was so tight inside. I'm 6'4" and even with the seat gangster leaning in the 3rd Gen my head hits the roof. I was concerned the 4th gen would be similar, but I have plenty of headroom. 2006 SR5 with auto seat adjustments and no sunroof. Seat is all the way down with little to no lean and I easily have four inches of headroom.

OK, I'll play!

Have a 2007 Limited V8 with 80,000 miles on the clock.

Was planning to sell it and get a 2017 5th Gen. But my wife decided she'd rather keep the old 4Runner as her vehicle, and sell our Audi.

So we now have the 4th Gen and a 2017 TRD Off Road Premium. Here's my take:

Advantage 4th Gen:

• 
  V8 vs V6...BUT this is virtually a tie IMHO. Per the specs, the two are pretty close, with the V6 producing more HP, but less torque. I definitely like the V8's low end. So the 8 cyl. narrowly comes out on top

• 
  Sound - the V8 clearly wins here

• Percieved turning radius. Specs say they are identical, but the 4th Gen seems like it has a small advantage to me

• No "secret compartment" in the glovebox in the 5th Gen

Advantage 5th Gen:

• Looks (IMHO), but like the engine, this one is really close in my book. And it depends largely on what trim level you've got, how they are modded etc.

• Interior look and feel. I'm pretty anal about taking care of my cars, and the leather in the 4th Gen looks like crap. I'm actually liking the SofTex in the 5th Gen, and I'm hopeful it'll hold up better. While both vehicles seem "plasticy" compared to German vehicles I've owned, I prefer the 5th Gen look and feel overall. Oh, and when you shut the doors on the 5th Gen it reminds me more of an Audi, while the 4th Gen sounds like my old F250 pickup :hiding:

• Seats. This one is no question in my mind, and sort of a big deal. I think the 4th Gen front seats suck, and are basically painfull after anything more than about 45 minutes

• Lighting - interior and exterior

• Electronics and other modern stuff. Not even close - even thought the 4th Gen was the Limited, having more modern Nav, Bluetooth, Entune, voice recognition, reverse cam, heated wipers and mirrors etc. is a treat in the 5th Gen

I'd say the auto dual climate setup in the Limited and the "manual" controls in the 5th Gen are a tie.

The great thing: they both have rear windows that go down! :banana:

Took the words right out of my mouth the TRD BRO, is nice, but by no means an offroad warrior, and the minute you said Rav4 Discovery I was wondering why Toyota is trying to compete in the Trailhawk region....I mean there can only be so many 45 year old males who convinced their wife that they NEEDED a "TRAIL RATED" compact SUV...haha
